1965 GTV Vintage Race Car

My 1965 Alfa Sprint GT S/N 611615 is for sale.

I am reluctantly selling the car as I feel I have pretty much done what I set out to do and that was to race on every significant track in the US and Canada. It’s been a great ride and I met a lot of wonderful people, but at 71, I think it may be time to slow down a bit.

I have had a great run with this car and it’s in great shape with a fresh rebuilt engine and new clutch, pressure place and TO Bearing.

The engine is a fresh rebuild with only dyno time only on it. It is a proper 1600 with a 536 block producing about 150HP, built by Terry Tinney Engineering a renowned engine builder here on the West Coast. Dyno Sheets available.

The engine has a 2 liter clutch setup with an aluminum flywheel as that is the one weak spot with 1600 motors. It has GTA style headers with a flowmaster muffler which produces about 95 db. I also have a quieter header back system for those tracks that require it.

The engine has a modern mini alternator which takes little power and keeps everything working fine. The engine also has a gear reduction starter from Beck Engineering which guarantees you can start a hot race engine. The airbox is a GTA look alike unit.

The suspension has heavy springs, koni shocks and delren bushings. The transmission is a close ratio 5 speed. It has a Fuel Safe 8 gallon fuels cell, FIA and SCCA approved. The roll bar is a bolt in unit.

It has received an SCCA inspection sticker. The radiator is custom made multirow unit with the original Alfa top and bottom tanks. This radiator combined with a small fiber engine driven fan have produced a system that has never gotten hot even on 100 plus days with 98% Humidity.

I once raced the car in Las Vegas at 114 degrees and it ran perfectly cool.

The differential is a 4:56 unit from a 2 liter car. The positraction has been modified to increase the lockup. This unit is bulletproof on a 1600 car. The brakes are standard 1600 discs with Hawk blue pads. These have proven to work just fine and have never faded.

I have installed a dual master cylinder from a 1969 GTV along with a dual fluid reservoir. The car has a Holly electric fuel pump, filter and regulator. It also has an onboard Halon fire system with outlets in the engine, driver and fuel cell area.

The gages are all stock Alfa with the addition of an aftermarket voltmeter, oil temp and oil pressure gage. The car also has an AMB wired in transponder.

The wheels are Panasport 15X6 wheels that are about two years old and are period correct. The tires are Hooiser Speedster 185-65-R15’s that are accepted everywhere for this car. The windshield, vent windows and rear glass are glass.

The rear quarter windows are plastic.

The interior has a very comfortable drivers Corbeau racing seat equipped with a 5 point seat belt system and a 1967 Alfa passenger seat equipped with a lap belt system. There is a complete dash with padded top, there are upholstered door panels and rear seat area side panels. There is no roof headliner.

The car was disassembled in 2005 and painted. The paint is in excellent shape, but does have some chips in the headlight and lower front valence area.

Spares available are a complete Marrilliplex ignition system including distributor, rotor, cap, wires, coil and sender. A five speed Alfa gearbox and complete 2 liter rearend. These two items were taken from a running car, but have not been rebuilt. They are stored in the trailer in case something happened on a long trip. Nothing ever did and I have never used them.

I also have some spare brake pads, wheel bearings, wheel seals, belts, fan, hoses, brake light sender, and other small parts. I really haven’t needed these items, but I carried them in the trailer just in case. I have been a hero to many other drivers by having these parts available.

Overall, this is a quick, reliable, period correct car. It is not a 100 point concours car, but is a car that I am proud to own. It gets complements everywhere it goes and the tech inspectors always complement the preparation.

It handles very well and is a joy to drive.
