Automobile Audi A3 G-Tron

Either after refueling, or if the weather is cold outdoors, this car starts and runs on petrol for a short period of time. Though, electronics will clock over the automobile system for gas as quickly as possible.

At Geneva Motor Show, Audi will mark a couple of trends in the development of their future models. Firstly, this is hybrid hatchback Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron, with petrol and electric motors. The 2nd vector of research is Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron, which engine is configured for both petrol and synthetic methane.

We have already talked about conceptual developments of Germans; but the production vehicle is ready. The main ‘trick’ about this car is its initial configuration to run on e-gas fuel.

Cylinder gases are composed of 3 layers. The internal polyamide (1) serves here for tightness. The middle layer (2) is a polymer, fibered with carbon and withstanding a lot of pressure.

The outer layer (3) is made of polymer too, but reinforced with fiberglass, so necessary for external damage protection. Epoxy resin is placed between the last two layers for a more secure connection.

The specialists of both Audi and Munich Company SolarFuel have been working hard on fuel creation. This is synthetic methane that is produced by converting it from the electricity and carbon dioxide. In a hatchback model, the gas will be stored in 2 special cylinders (lighter than traditional, only 27 kg), which contain up to 15 kg of it (100 liters at a pressure of 200 bar).

Also, there is a 50-liter tank for gasoline.

Thus, with completely loaded reservoirs, Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron can manage up to 1,300 kilometers of the road. In the combined cycle, the 5-door model takes 3.5 kg of natural gas per 100 kilometers, emitting less than 100 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

Originally, stock cars Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron will get a six-speed manual transmission and more expensive automatic 7-gearbox S tronic.

Audi e-gas

Under the hood, there is a 110-hp turbo engine 1.4 TFSI with 200 H • m (by the way, the figures do not change, depending on the type of fuel). Such an engine has a modified injection system, turbocharger, cylinder block head and catalytic converter. The car can accelerate up to 190 km/h and reach the first hundred in 11 seconds after the start.

It should be noted that hatchback G-Tron is equipped with an automatic pressure regulator in the fuel system and injection nozzles.

The specialists of Audi have derived the right carbon balance, calculated from the wheel energy source for a gasoline car, first of all. Speaking of the same in size and power electric vehicle, it is charged with electricity from the wind turbines. Finally, a car can also take e-gas.

It turned out that emissions in the 1st case are 168 g/km, in the 2nd – 54g/km, and in the 3rd – 61 g/km.

The automobile debut will take place in Switzerland in early March, 2013. In the market for sales, the hatchback Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron will arrive later this year and early the next year. At the moment, the question is in the production in Germany. Moreover, the world’s first plant for production of synthetic methane on commercial scale will be built in Werlte nearly at the end of 2013. Due to it, a thousand tons of e-gas will be produced annually, using the power of 6 MW and 2,800 tons of carbon dioxide.

This quantity is sufficient to supply 1500 fuel gas Audi A3s, which are able to run 15,000 operational miles per year.
