The of Infocomm Research (I 2 R) and BYD Company has signed on Wednesday a joint agreement to advance the capabilities of electric vehicles in Singapore.

The announcement follows the recent of the first locally developed car by the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and (Smart) and the National University of clearly building traction for mobility in the city-state.

This new research and development (RD) will particularly focus on the expertise of both organisations.

The a member of the Agency for Science, and Research (A*STAR), is Singapore’s research body for information and technology (ICT). They on intelligence, communications and media which include studies on and optical communication networks, and signal processing.

Intelligent cars be one of the most important directions for the industry in the future

China-headquartered on the other hand, is a leading firm on electric and efficient and other energy technologies, as rechargeable batteries. One of their projects is supplying the electric that will be used in Amsterdam’s Schipol airport.

Together, the two will push in clean technology in transport. will develop drive-by-wire in the electric cars BYD manufactures electronic controls to activate the control steering and manoeuvring, and to other mechanisms in the vehicles.

The capability they are eyeing is the Vehicle fleet management which can allocate AV resources on real time information the location of the vehicle, route, and information.

This will be in more than 100 electric for test-bedding purposes, according to the two joint statement.

From these experimentation, the gathered will be used to the AV robotic intelligence, enabling it to situations specific to the Singapore context and road environment. It also allow the future cars to make intelligent based on predicted and typical of drivers.

The goal is let the autonomous fleet to run seamlessly and safely regular person-driven vehicles.

Liu BYD Asia Pacific Auto Group general manager, “Intelligent cars will be one of the important directions for the transportation in the future.”

“The collaboration between BYD and I 2 R, largest ICM research institute, its deep knowledge in autonomous technologies, is going to be an exciting for us. We believe that a new energy embedded with autonomous technologies will provide with a completely different experience,” he added.

“We to benefit the transport industry in and countries all over the world,” Dr Lee Shiang Long.
