Has Tesla made electric cars affordable? Not exactly. On Tuesday, Tesla Motors unveiled what it called a revolutionary new finance product that, the company said, would allow people to get a mid-range Model S electric car for less than $500 per month. (Cars.com) So does that mean Tesla has found a way to make its pricey electric cars affordable? Well, not exactly. A closer look at the fine print suggests that mid-range Model S will more realistically cost around $1,000 per month — not nearly as cheap. Still, the financing scheme is interesting and worth exploring. Here’s how the basic arrangement would work: US Bank and Wells Fargo have agreed to provide financing for the purchase ...

Winter chills limit range of the Tesla Model S electric car

Find Ratings We’ve been enjoying the Tesla Model S as it goes through its break-in period, leading into formal testing. During this time, I’ve been keen to find out its real-world range, and recently confirmed that driving this electric car—like any other—can bring some range anxiety. Although winter highway driving may present a worst-case scenario, our Tesla actually delivered the range it projected. It was a chilly 45 F when I pointed our fully charged Model S homeward for my informal experiment, a distance of 75 miles. With 240 miles on the car’s range indicator, I figured there would be more than ample juice to cover the distance, plus some nighttime errands, the ...

Tesla may need to slow down electric car production Tesla is ramping up production of electric cars such as its Model S. But one investing strategist is worried that Tesla is boosting production too quickly. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) John J. Licata is the founder and chief energy strategist for Blue Phoenix Inc . an independent research and consulting company focused on next generation energy. Neither Licata nor his firm has an investing position in Tesla Motors. Tesla is showing that it is getting the knack for making cars. At least that is what one can infer from a recent tweet by chairman and CEO Elon Musk . Over the weekend, Musk said the luxury electric vehicle maker made 100 vehicle bodies ...

VehicleVoice General Motors Failures Kudos for Trying Posted by George Peterson on May 26, 2012 at 11:47 am General Motors Company (formerly Corporation ) today is a shadow of its former self.  It sells fewer models through fewer brands since its bankruptcy in 2009.  It is reconstructing itself and building itself into a competitive and profitable car company.   That transformation appears to be going very well. Over the years, however, General Motors has often tried to be a trailblazer (no pun intended) in new vehicle design and development.  Many of these vehicles failed, but we believe GM deserves a tremendous amount of credit for trying where other companies did not have the ...

3 Reasons Why You’re Not Buying an Electric Car Updated Feb 21st 2012 1:23PM The electric car has arrived, but odds are that there isn’t one in your driveway. Several factors have gotten in the way of the eco-friendly automotive revolution, but at least now we can ask conspiracy theorists — the ones arguing that oil companies and the government are blocking plug-in electric cars from the road — to leave the room and take their tinfoil hats with them. The electric car is here. Drivers simply have other plans. What’s wrong with electric cars? Tesla Motors (TSLA ) reported revenue of $39 million in its latest quarter, 9% ahead of where it was last year. It may ...

Tesla Motors seeks to annihilate false perception about fire risk of electric cars A US government agency said Tuesday it was investigating fires in Tesla electric vehicles, as the company ordered modifications aimed at reducing what it called a negligible risk. The move by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came after Tesla requested such a probe, saying it wanted to quash any false perception about the safety of electric cars. The NHTSA said in a statement it has opened a formal investigation to determine if a safety defect exists in certain Tesla Model S vehicles. The investigation was prompted by recent incidents in Washington State and Tennessee that resulted in ...

Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors to Introduce Self-Driving Cars in Three Years Elon Musk s companies have been a PR treasure trove of late. SpaceX is making strides in reusable rocket tech with its Grasshopper rocket. Musk showed off an Iron Man 3D design interface his engineers are building. Then of course, there’s his hypothethical 700+ mph Hyperloop from SF to LA. Now, he’s pushing the envelope again. This time it’s robot cars—a hot topic any way you slice it. Big automakers are stumbling over each other to forecast and commit to bold timelines. Earlier this year, BMW predicted  we’d have highly automated cars by 2020 and the fully automated variety by 2025. More recently, Nissan ...

Tesla Motors Is Trying to Prove History Doesn’t Repeat

Rubric General Motors | 3 Июн 2014 | Комментарии к записи Tesla Motors Is Trying to Prove History Doesn’t Repeat отключены

Tesla Motors Is Trying to Prove History Doesn’t Repeat It’s tempting to think car companies such as Tesla Motors ( NASDAQ: TSLA ) and Nissan ( NASDAQOTH: NSANY ) were the first to introduce electric vehicles to world. Of course no car company before them has been able to bring such technologically advanced electric cars to the mass market — or sell as many as they have — but the electric car has had a long history before these two companies came into existence. To fully understand today’s electric automotive market, let’s look at how electric vehicles got their start. In the beginning According to PBS. Scottish inventor Robert Anderson built the first electric ...
