Car Lust 19921998 Oldsmobile Achieva

1992-1998 Oldsmobile Achieva If there were ever an entirely inexplicable, odd, unusual and unexpected object of Car Lust, it would be. the Rampage! But a close second (third, fourth, or fifth, really, given the people around here) is my uncanny BLOARC* for the Oldsmobile Achieva. No, I don’t understand it. No major reliability issues, not an exceptional performer, but not an underpowered weenie-mobile ...

Oldsmobile Cutlass Generation 1 Oldsmobile Cutlass Generation 1 Reviewed by Unique Cars and Parts Our Rating: 3 Introduction General Motors began developing its first compact cars in 1956, beginning with the Chevrolet Corvair. The following year a second series of somewhat larger cars was planned for Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac, what would be termed senior compacts. They would share the same body shell and lightweight engine. Oldsmobile designer Irving Rybicki began work on the Olds model in 1957. It finally went on sale in 1960 as a 1961 model. The Oldsmobile, dubbed F-85, shared a new A-body platform, using a 112-inch (2845 mm) wheelbase and still-novel unibody construction, with ...

Old Car Memories 1976 Oldsmobile 98 Regency – Never to Be Repeated

Back when big cars were everywhere on American roads, Cadillac was the standard for what a large luxury automobile sought to be. Only one problem, buying a Cadillac was out of reach for most buyers. By the time the fifth generation Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight (98) was released for the 1971 model year, Olds had carved out a nice niche of offering Cadillac level luxury in its 98 for a reasonable price. The 1971 98 was the biggest, heaviest, and most luxurious production Olds up to that time. The exterior design of the 98 resembled a Cadillac. It had a long low and wide stance not to mention long tailfins that ended at the attractive tail lights. Tailfins by the mid-1960s had disappeared on most American ...

1955 Oldsmobile Super EightyEight

Car of the Week: 1955 Oldsmobile Super Eighty-Eight By Brian Earnest At age 72, Gordon Garnett Jr. decided he wasn’t too old to pull off at least one more fantastic ground-up restoration on a tired old car. And his choice of cars seemed to be obvious. He had owned four 1955 Oldsmobiles in the past, and they were his favorites. Still, for some reason he started down a different path, until he finally came to his senses. “I love the ’55 Olds, but I bought a ’54 Ninety-Eight Holiday hardtop with factory air and I thought I would do it,” said Garnett, a resident of Hampton, Va. “I bought this other car more or less as a parts car. Well, I got to looking at this car and I though this ...

Hemmings Find of the Day 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale This 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale is not what one would expect from an Oldsmobile of the era. Let s start with that rather spry blue paint instead of some dull earth-tone brown or green. Very attractive. Then there s the 455 under the hood with (if we re reading this right) 390 horsepower and 500-lbs.ft. of torque. To top it all off, from the photos it looks like it s been treated to the same level of restoration one would lavish on a 4-4-2 or other A-body. From the seller s description: Near mint, super rare equipped with high compression 455 L-31, 4-barrel, 70 OB-code Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission, Strato bucket seats sports ...

1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham (Cutlass) About This was my first car. I bought it from the original owner in 1984 when I was 16 years old. It had 16,000 miles on it at the time and was well cared for by the former owner. The former owner was selling it to buy a new Camaro and told me later he wished he had kept the Cutlass. It went into storage in the garage at my parent s home when I went to college in 1986 and it stayed there until 2001 because I was moving all over the country and didn t have a place to keep it. It was stored on jack stands at all four corners and when I returned to visit a couple times a year I would start it and let it idle in Drive for 30 minutes to lube the ...
