The Citroën C-ZERO is a Supermini /city car produced by Citroën and is 100% electric powered. It was developed in teamwork with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Its sister will be marketed by Peugeot.

The differences between the cars will be the different exterior and interior styling and a price difference.

The C-ZERO has a maximum range of 93 miles and is already capable of cutting through London’s traffic. Indeed research from Citroen shows that average daily journeys in urban areas are 23 miles, with the car at rest for 92 per cent of the day more than enough to provide plenty of recharging opportunities. By offering zero emissions while running, owners incur zero company car tax, zero Vehicle Excise Duty and zero London Congestion Charge.

The C-Zero is virtually impossible to tell apart from any other city car. The fully-electric is as well appointed as you would expect with four full-sized seats, a 166-litre boot, power steering, ABS, traction control, ESP, electric windows, six airbags and air conditioning.

The performance will be adequate for the vast majority of city drivers. The C-Zero has a top speed of 80mph, has a 0-62mph time of 15 seconds and is able to travel 80 miles, over a standard combined cycle, before its batteries need charging. The C-Zero has a range of about 80m / 130km, its lithium-ion batteries take six hours for a full recharge with an 80% charge possible in just half an hour, the C-Zero is a four-seater with a top speed around 80mph (130km/h).

Power comes from a permanent magnetic synchronous motor, which produces 47kW (64bhp). It produces 133lb ft of torque between 0 and 2000rpm and power is sent to the rear axle by a single-speed reduction gear.

The C-ZERO’s production follows a major push from the Government to make green driving more affordable to UK drivers. One major scheme provides a £5,000 grant to customers choosing one of nine selected electric cars, including the C-ZERO.

Positive Review: Top 80mph for 93 miles, easy to drive, no engine noise, the motor works like a generator converting its own power into energy, not only economical but parking is free.

Cons . Not for the large family, small car with small but cosy interior.

Conclusion of Review: Anyone who is expecting Citroen’s first electric motor to be a revolt will be saddened. However, the C-ZERO does exactly what it says on the tin: it’s a zero-emissions city car that has enough punch for town driving. It’s well equipped and will seat four in relative comfort and safety, too.

New price range: £25,000 approximate
