Citroen C-Zero Review

The Citroen C-Zero joins the company’s line of electrically powered vehicles. The first company to release electric vehicles was Berlingo and Peugeot. But other companies like Citroen joined the competitive market to be a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to the rising fuel costs. The Citroen C-Zero is a rebadged variation of the Peugeot iOn and Mitsubishi i-MiEV, delivering strong and smooth acceleration along town roads.

Zero emissions save you from tax costs and lessen your monthly running costs.

This electrically powered innovator is powered by a 66 bhp or 47 kilowatt electric motor. Its torque is at 140lb ft when starting from standstill. You won’t have any problems accelerating into urban speeds. In fact the C-Zero’s speed is so impressive that it can outlast and outperform a small diesel or petrol vehicle.

The drive is also made easier thanks to the absence of a gearbox.

The car’s centre of gravity is kept low despite the C-Zero’s tall height and does so by keeping the motor and batteries underneath the floor. This not only balances the body weight but also allows the C-Zero to be stable even on urban road conditions. Suspension complies so well that it absorbs most of the impact from bumps and potholes.

The C-Zero also excels in handling, being practically silent when running along the road. The only noise you’ll hear is a slight whirr from the motor, but it only registers as a hum in the background. Once you go faster, the most irritating sound it can have is a slight whine.

Expect some wind noise, however, when you go on moderate speeds.

The interior has more than enough space for four passengers, along with an adequate boot and four doors for easy entry. The C-Zero’s narrow track also makes it an easy to drive, especially when you have to slither through traffic gaps. Drivers won’t have any problems either looking at all angles thanks to the all-around visibility.

A tight turning circle is provided for as well by the rear-mounted motor.

The ride is kept smooth as well by the C-Zero’s decent body control, sharp and responsive steering, and Soft springs that also deliver a decent ride.

Being an electric car, you can’t expect it to be as long lasting as a typical motor vehicle. The vehicle’s charge runs out quicker when you have the air-con on max and the main beam on at night. You can conserve more power by keeping them off, but if you have decided on an electric car, then such a compromise doesn’t come as a surprise.

Although the electric motor can readily accelerate from standstill, it still needs a little more work when you go above 30mph. Any additional pace might also put the vehicle’s range in harm’s ways. But if you’re merely winding through traffic or going through urban roads, you won’t have any problems accelerating into 30mph.

To remedy the buyers’ worries over lifespan and battery costs, a four-year contract was offered at £299 a month and includes leasing the battery, cost, and car, along with a two-year warranty and a five-year drivetrain warranty, as well as full maintenance and service.
