Daihatsu Car Reviews

I’ve had my 1.0 EL for a while now, and have to say it is a brilliant, underrated little In terms of practicality, the car seems from the outside, especially parked alongside other cars. Inside, it is like a with plenty of space for 4

As equipment goes, it’s no tech machine, but comes specced, with twin front electric windows, mirrors, power steering, locking and a CD player.

The boot the biggest around as you’d but is more than enough for a of bags of shopping, and the seats are dropped. The rear bench can just be popped out if needs be. It has a feature I can’t remember before, which is that the open at 90 degrees to the car when fully, making entering and the car easier.

Reliability wise, are no faults with the car, it solid, and doesn’t feel as if are going to be any faults. Has never had any on any past MOTs either. the last winter, even it spent 6 weeks without started due to me being ill, it first time with no and still has the original 5 year old

Running costs are where car really shines. I frequently 55-60mpg, and once managed an of 75mpg on a trip with a mix of and town driving. Tax is Ј30 a year, so go wrong there. This is my car, and the insurance is about as low as I find.

Servicing costs are good, and consumables such as and windscreen wipers are also cheap.

The way the car drives was the biggest for me. With the tiny little 1.0 engine I wasn’t expecting but as the car is so light, it never feels and doesn’t even feel by hills. The gearbox is nice and with a satisfying sort of feeling between gears, and the itself is very quiet.

You can tell it’s a 3 cylinder, is a small vibration at idle, but than that, it’s very quiet.

It is also fun to drive, with it being so it handles like a go kart. The is very rev happy, and the pulls throughout the rev range. It does to understeer when pushed and has a bit of body roll, but that’s not what it was designed to do. When normally, it is comfortable and very to drive.

If you need a cheap runaround and don’t want to fun, this car should be on your list.

The car also has a Euro NCAP safety and has features designed to minimise the of low speed collisions, such as absorbing bonnet hinges. It however, tend to be knocked by strong winds on motorways, due to the weight and flat sides.

All in the Charade is a fantastic little and I would recommend it to anyone.

My Mum owned both the OLD model of car and currently has the NEW model as featured on Top so thought it might be useful to a quick comparison of the two. OK are not my car, but I have driven numerous times and feel placed to give a balanced of the car as I did not pay for them! Firstly, the. old (the one pictured here!). what can I say, it was an atrocious of engineering.

The 1.3L engine was far too underpowered, making even inclines difficult to traverse, 2nd was needed even for small most of the time as the gear were wholly inadequate. The car was far slower than my 2002 Vauxhall Corsa. I would go as far as this car was DANGEROUSLY underpowered.

MPG was averaging low 30s to the gallon. Not only but at 60mph+ the road and engine was unbearable, and the car would sway in a light breeze. Inside, the was extremely cramped due to the cars profile.

The interior plastics, although put together looked like had been made from down McDonalds Toys, and the fabric is like something the 1980s. I was overjoyed to see the back of car.

The positives? Well, I it does cope alright on off road bits, but its lack of is a serious hindrance. The ones the Sport pack consisting of big and alloy wheels do look good as well, but BEWARE, the car is awful!

The new model, well, its a apart. OK its still only a petrol engine but its a lot more than the old one. It doesn’t underpowered, but is far from being The engine does sound noisy at higher RPMs and be a bit more refined. The new model a lot better than the old one, a seperate rear anti bar and a wider wheel track it much more stability at higher speeds.

The only downside is that the suspension feels unsettled on roads, but this is the case most small 4x4s. I comment on its off road ability as I not driven it off road, but it coped on Top Gear. Inside, the car is well with plenty of soft-touch which would look at home in a German SuperMini.

The and controls are pretty funky, but do a bit cheap. The CD player is built in so be changed, which is a shame as it not play copied CDs. is excellent both in the front and at the and there is a large boot.

The and alloys on my mothers version it a nice sporty look, and the air con is a touch.

Old Model — like the plague, even the Sport pack is good

New Model — An excellent if you want a Mummys 4×4, and than a Rav 4.

Daihatsu YRV by Nick Lingi

I was for a good value, sub — Ј2K car vandals had recently written off my previous car. The obvious KA’s, Corsas and puntos up but to be perfectly honest they very good (I have 3 experience as a motoring journalist) I upon the YRV when I was looking for a Yaris (which just. up out of my price range)

The car is both and nippy, a pretty rare Drivability therough the rev-range is as the car pulls smoothly from reves in any gear.
