LaFerrari Legendary Supercar of 2014

They called it LaFerrari and it’s not a mock-up of Ferrari 458 Italia. It’s just LaFerrari, a one-word name to signify its status as the legendary supercar of 2014. Its low wedge, curvaceous design seems like a concept car of the mid-90’s, but the lead designers at Ferrari think that this would be the car that millionaires will be driving in the coming year.

It has some distinctive lines that give it a more aerodynamic look as well as rear and front diffusers, active guide vanes on its underbody and standard rear spoiler to provide the needed downforce.

The LaFerrari sports a 6.3 liter V-12 engine that can muster 789 horsepower at 9000 rpm. It has a lighter crankshaft than the other Ferrari models, and an electric motor on its back – making it an official hybrid supercar. According to Ferrari, the V-12 engine and electric motor combo can provide 660 lb-ft of torque.

The company also claimed that it will have a seven-speed automated-manual transmission that can add another 161 horsepower. This will give the LaFerrari a total of 950 horsepower, and all that power can be transformed into speed and acceleration.

As a matter of fact, LaFerrari is expected to reach 62 mph in just 3 seconds, while it can accelerate up to 186 mph in just 15 seconds. Also, the car has been tested at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track and it bested the F12 and Enzo by more than 3 seconds. These two models are known to be the fastest Ferrari road cars for a few months now, but LaFerrari has overshadowed their records.

This can be due to the new brake technology used in this car which improves fade and friction resistance by almost 10 percent, while increasing its decelerative power by almost 15 percent.

It also features a next-gen stability control system that can provide accurate steering inputs for up to 30 percent more quickly than an Enzo. Ferrari has put together all their cutting edge technologies which were developed through years of rigorous research and development, and integrated those technologies in this particular car. So, the LaFerrari is expected to deliver absolute performance, especially when it comes to handling, aerodynamic efficiency and power without compromising other areas like safety and design.

Just like any other supercar out there, it’s hand-built in the same facility where Ferrari’s F1 cars are made. The materials used in this model consist of hand-laid carbon fiber. Basically, the car is manufactured by using four different types of lightweight materials depending on application and requirements. As a result, this makes the car 1.7 narrower with roof at 43.9 inches high and its 1.3 closer to the pavement than an Enzo.

Its center of gravity is 1.4 inches lower and 59 percent of its weight is concentrated on its rear axle.

The driver and passenger sit behind a 12.3-inch digital display, and there are two options to choose from – traditional Ferrari layout and competition-style layout.  Also, the steering wheel and pedals will automatically adjust to the driver, so it will definitely be a comfortable ride. So far, there are no definite pricing for the LaFerrari, but the total cost will start at least $1.2 million and Ferrari will only build 499 units.
