CONCLUSION: Ditch the Prius, get the instead.  Might be even equipped than most fleet ’13 Fusion Hybrids.

I ve a few 2013 Ford C-MAXes on the not many, but enough to pique my The C-MAX bears a similarly shape to the Prius and looks an ungainly, tall Ford wagon.  As I discovered on my rental, the is far superior to the Prius.

To refresh memory of the very similar Ford Fusion SE Hybrid, refer to our previous review

Ford C-Max Hybrid

Both and National have acquired a few C-MAX vehicles at DCA.  classifies it as a hybrid car under Cool Car specialty vehicle and National classifies it as an SCAH or Hybrid, which falls the same classification as the 2013/2012 Prius and 2013 Ford Hybrids.  Both companies likely charge a per diem fee to rent the C-MAX.

The 2013 C-MAX SEL Hybrid starts at and this rental added E Group 302A ( +$1,915; factory navigation, 9-speaker HD-Audio, power liftgate, camera ) and White Platinum ( +$595 ) for a total as-rented of $31,420.  17-inch painted wheels are standard equipment.  particular C-MAX was also news!

As you ll notice, this Hybrid was better optioned both 2013 Ford types that I rented.  If you both a C-MAX Hybrid and a Ford Fusion Hybrid on the lot, then it might be your while to compare the levels and options.

The 2013 Ford C-MAX is than both the Prius and the yet is wider and taller than the The front grille was adorably Aston Martin and overall it had a handsome and premium exterior than my last Prius This C-MAX was equipped the optional hands-free kick-enabled but I had some difficulty getting it to work.

I ll try reading the manual time.

The interior looks identical to that of the 2013 Escape with the exception of the panel, which has been with Ford s next SmartGauge/EcoGuide.  As in the Escape, interior quality was excellent and certainly better than that of the

The steeply raked windshield, window cutouts, and large gave the C-MAX excellent and sideward visibility.  The fixed sunroof (I m guessing it doesn t in order to preserve fuel added to the airy cabin.  The roofline provided generous fore and aft, even the equipped sunroof eating up a few Seating position in the front was upright and exceptionally comfortable.  seat cushions were (another Ford Escape but retained good comfort and seating posture.

Rear seat passengers are treated to a single 110V outlet.

Audio was supplied by the very good Sony HD-system and a rearview camera was as part of the Equipment Group package.  Ford apparently its rearview camera display to much needed steering lines in addition to its usual colored proximity demarcations .  As on the Hybrid, a graphical ready to message appeared upon ignition.  This was particularly since both vehicles so quiet at idle that I had discerning whether the car was actually on.

I had one about the otherwise excellent The instrumentation binnacle was highlighted by a chrome surround for purely purposes.  The bottom half of the was reflected in the gauges and a potentially visual distraction.

Ford, this should be an fix.  How about a replacement surround?

The C-MAX was more than the Ford Fusion Storage nooks and crannies in the C-MAX.  Second row seats flat via a quick rotation of the and a twist of the thigh cushion

I suspect that most will be curious to know kind of real world economy I averaged.  As the only I turned up the heat, turned on the seats, pumped up the bass and 41 mpg at the end of my rental, without much effort.  I had no problems achieving 57 mpg in the 2013 Ford Fusion I rented and I m certain the C-MAX is of equal numbers.  The C-MAX was with helpful braking and fuel efficiency leaves made my task of fuel optimization very easy.

Aggressive drivers who depend on the gasoline engine will average in the 30 mpg range.

In conclusion, I hands down rent the over the Prius.  As for the C-MAX vs. the Hybrid, it will come to your body style and level preferences.
