CR-V Navigation + JDM Reverse Accessory on a USDM CR-Z

some research into the OEM nav units found in Hondas, I that the 2010-2011 CR-V navigation has a set of connectors that are identical to the CR-Z navigation with the only exception an additional input for a backup The Honda factory installed such as the one found on the CR-V, and the Access cameras, such the one for the JDM and EDM CR-Zs, appeared to have wiring to each other. that I could find a way to the camera to the head unit, I have a 100% OEM backup setup without using a module. I found a used nav unit on eBay, along the connector pigtails cut from the vehicle, and I snatched it up almost

Problem solved.

Once instead of the usual DIY, describe my install with a pictorial:

Let’s not beat the bush. Here’s the JDM camera on my bumper. Bumper removal

CR-Z nav unit shown on the and CR-V nav on the right. The two have connections on the rear panel, for the camera connection by the exhaust fan on the nav unit.

CR-Z volume vs.

. CR-V volume knob. is the only difference between the faceplates, besides the XM Radio (It still requires an external XM

The CR-V backup camera that was cut from donor harness.

Another nav unit from the donor CR-V. connector has some pins wires that better the JDM harness wire colors.

The wiring has a lot of excess length. I added my own wire looming to it, as it come with anything seemed long enough.

running along driver

. past the rear tray/partition.

. the IMA fan ducting.

. and finally to the rear the excess harness length and zip tied to itself a few times.

I had to take most of the rear trim out to route the harness. I sure which side to it to at first, so I took out both liners to investigate.

Video of the in action:

The Honda nav units have a reverse gear going to them, so just in the camera connector enables the camera function. Pretty Just put it in reverse and that’s it.

the interior trim was the most part of this install. of the orange clips got destroyed I removed the panels, so I still a lot of my interior apart while I for replacements.

The only issue is it seems that the screen angle may be a tiny bit off for what’s for the CR-Z seating position. not too bad though, especially since I can play with the contrast and to compensate for it. I actually tried the headunit faceplates to see what with no success.

The backup camera video not display on the CR-Z faceplate; it shows a black screen. Ah Other than this issue, which you can correct some adjustments, this mod was worth it for me.

I didn’t think needed a full on DIY, all information you need to do this is pretty well in the pictures. The numbers that I used are below. There are a few other attachment kits with different part numbers are also available for the CR-Z will probably work as well; the difference is probably in device they are designed to be to and the market it was intended for.

Anyways, this should be the wiring project that I planned for my CR-Z, that is I find out about something cool that involves that I’m not yet aware of. to this thread if you have any or questions. Thanks!
