Model Update

One of the sharpest designs with wheels attached belongs to the aggressive little Honda Civic Type R. Low profile sporty angles, triangular fog lamps, triangular chrome exhaust tips, alloy wheels, spoiler and a black mesh grille tell a story of just how intentional this little Honda is. For those in the know, the red Honda badge means performance.

Slip into the bucket seats and fire up the engine with a push button start and instantly the engine has a throaty, free revving response, the kind of racing tone that sets the tingles going down your spine. Acceleration in the 2010 Honda Civic Type R is exhilarating. Without any turbo charging, the Civic Type R punches up some very serious numbers.

It embosses 148kW of power at 7800 rpm, and 193Nm of torque at 5600 rpm, which is very much a hot hatch flavour. Sub eight second times consistently hurl the Civic Type R through to 100 km/h from a standstill. A six-speed manual gearbox and a limited slip differential enforce commanding traction over the road ahead.

Sporty overtones in the red black and silver interior’s appearance envelope some very modern technological features like: a leather wrapped steering wheel, a six-speaker audio with iPod and USB connectivity, dual zone climate control, cruise control and steering wheel mounted audio controls. This little Type R revs up one’s life like few hot hatches can. Check it out!

Screaming along with 8000 rpm on the clock isn’t a daily recommendation for any average motor vehicle. Then Hondas are not average.

With their high performance Type R engines that are created by very fine Honda engineers, engine manufacture is taken up a notch or two. Their competitors can only stand in awe of the finely executed engine-design and precision built motors which make Honda engines some of the most efficient, high powered and reliable engines known in the automotive circles.

Honda’s Civic Type R is a real “mover and shaker” in global small high performance engines. This is a fiery engine that packs an incredible punch that boxes well above its weight. With loads of “tear away” punch, high performance is as close as the moment the accelerator is prodded.

This is the sort of drive that offers huge levels of thrills and enjoyment and guarantees big grins from ear to ear. It is no mistake that the Honda Type R has been given numerous performance car awards. This is a benchmark performer.

The triangular exhaust pipes, low profile and curvy lines, aggressive face and exquisite alloys make the car a sure-fire way to turn heads. Whether in, red, black, white or silver the car is always going to look just as good parked at the hotel in Sydney or thrashing it out on the bitumen race tracks. Symmetrically, the triangular driving lights match the chrome exhaust tips. Loads of red and black colour combinations splash themselves throughout the car’s interior.

The touches of chrome trim look incredibly flavoursome, and they make the Civic Type R a very compelling “Hot Hatch” look.

A “Hot Hatch” is definitely what the Civic Type –R is. Breathing a displacement of 1998 cc, the 2.0 litre DOHC i-VTEC engine has a maximum power of 148 kW that kicks in at a fizzing 7800 rpm. The maximum torque is a thrusting 193 Nm at 5600 rpm and pulls freely.

Honda has achieved the severe Euro 4 emissions standard, and with a combined fuel consumption of just 9.3 litres/100km, this is a performance car that seeks to credibly soften the impact of CO2 emissions on the global environment.

Urge the car on, and the front Macpherson strut, and rear torsion beam, chassis offers super grip. The front and rear stabiliser bars work in unison to keep the car as balanced, and in control, as a nimble and athletic gymnast. Acceleration in slippery conditions is kept at peak levels with the addition of a limited-slip differential. Even under extreme cornering the very light, and responsive, electronic power steering is wonderful to experience on any demanding and undulating road. With ventilated front and rear disc brakes, stopping power is very strong.

You could be forgiven for thinking you were an F1 Maclaren driver.

Honda Civic Type R

Inside the cockpit the little Honda Civic Type R is ergonomically well laid out, and the driving position is roomy and supportive. The stylish cabin is eye catching, and there are plenty of goodies to play with too. The car comes with an accessory power outlet, superb front and rear air conditioning with dual-zone climate control.

The alloy gear-knob with red stitched leather at the gear lever’s base offers a sporty combo to the aluminium foot rest and drilled-aluminium sports pedals. A nice centre console armrest, cruise control, and cup holders at both the front and rear of the car, are nice touches. The driver gets a very nice solid multi-function steering wheel that is black leather-wrapped with red stitching, however all occupants will admire the very nice Type R Alcantara front sports-seats.

Audio sound is top notch, and boasts tweeters.

Safety rates highly with VSA, TCS, ABS, EBD and DBW all being present active safety features. The car comes with loads of airbags, front belt pretensioners and a solid side impact protection beam. All belts are three pointers and “kiddie” locks are standard.

Hit the road in a Honda Type R, and you’ll hit the road running. You’ll stay well and truly at the front of any of the little sports car’s competitors too!
