Honda CR-Z Facelift Gets Extra Power With Updated 1.5-liter Engine and Electric Motor

Honda CR-Z Facelift Honda has revealed the facelift version of CR-Z hybrid that made its official debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. The biggest changes for the Honda CR-Z Facelift is a updated 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine and and the electric motor which deliver an extra power and for the first time features a Lithium Ion battery. The Plus Sport (S+) boost system will allow driver to make the best use of this sporty performance.

The Facelifted Honda CR-Z will go on sale in January 2013.

The Honda CR-Z Facelift gets minor changes for the exterior include a refreshed front bumper design with a revised grille and a new aerodynamic diffuser design. The 17 alloy wheels will be available for the GT models and customers will have choice of two new exterior colors: Aurora Violet and Energetic Yellow.

Honda has updated the CR-Z interior with addition of a new colour scheme and revisions to the door casings in addition to improve cabin storage.

In addition to improve performance of CR-Z, Honda has been updated the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine and the electric motor. The petrol engine receives  changes to the variable valve timing system and Engine Control Unit (ECU) delivers increased output total from 114 HP to 121 HP. The material of the crankshaft has been upgraded and an anti-vibration knock sensor has been introduced.

  As a result, peak power output has been increased from 112Hp to 119Hp.

The change from a Nickel-metal hybrid (Ni-MH) to a Lithium Ion battery which ups the electrical system’s output by more than 50 percent and increased the electric motor power from 14 PS (10 kW) to 20 PS (15 kW).

The Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system now delivers a combined total output of 137 HP at 6600 rpm and a peak torque of 140 lbs-ft. The Honda CR-Z Facelift sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 9.0 seconds (down from 9.7) and reaches top speed of 124 mph. The average fuel consumption is 5.0 lt/100 km (56.5 mpg UK, 47 mpg US) and CO2 emissions stand at 116 g/km.

Apart from the usual ECON, Normal and Sport modes, the Honda CR-Z Facelift received additions of driving modes, the Plus Sport (S+) boost system. The system increased acceleration for up to 10 seconds when the battery is more than 50% charged and activated by pressing the S  button on the steering wheel.
