I was fortunate to been able to test Honda’s ground-breaking hybrid car, the CR-Z, over the New holidays. I wasn’t in any hurry to my review as there was no word yet even if—the car would be in the Philippines.

But the car made an indelible in my mind and I just couldn’t but think what a terrific a hybrid sports car really is. One at the recently unveiled LaFerrari and its 963-hp hybrid power and you’ll know even like to have some fun the wheel. Or conversely, car enthusiasts want to do their bit in saving the

Ergo, hybrid sports

Not to worry, Honda’s sporty number is substantially more than a LaFerrari. In fact, it at a very realistic P1.4 And the best news is, it will hit this month!

In case wondering, CR-Z stands for Renaissance Zero,” which Honda’s commitment to go back to the of origin (zero) to take on the to create a new compact sports car being bound by the values of coupés. Developed with the of “More Hybrid Sports,” the was created to fuse two ideas: and Ecology.

The front-wheel-drive CR-Z sports a i-VTEC engine as the main of power with an electric Honda s Integrated Motor (IMA), combining for approximately and 190Nm of torque. This is good for an 8.5-second 0-100-km/h and a 210-km/h top speed—not as fast as rear-wheel-drive sports cars the Toyota 86 and Hyundai Genesis of which have at least but plenty zippy nonetheless.

But what really makes the such a fulfilling drive is its handling. You don’t need to farther than a parking lot or slalom to see how wickedly front-wheel-drive can handle. (That’s what the original Mini Cooper a killer in its day.) The CR-Z to your steering inputs clairvoyantly—and it’s such a to steer, whether you’re up an apex in a medium-fast corner or making a gentle right to your street. Making it more impressive is the surprisingly ride, which is far more than say, a Toyota

The cabin is surprisingly spacious The roofline is low, but you still decent front-seat headroom and even if you’re a six-footer. The is a 2+2, which means the rear seats are for occasional use or for trips only.

Kids have a blast back though.

The CR-Z features Three-mode Drive System, allows you to shift to SPORT, or ECON modes for different style and/or driving The system applies integrated over the engine’s Drive by control, motor assist, CVT control, and even the air conditioner. The also has an additional selection: the System or S+ Button option enables more responsive for even more fun and excitement.

The CR-Z comes in manual and Variable transmission (CVT paddle shifters) options and is in three variants. Aside the standard model, Honda offers the Modulo variant Modulo aero kit) and my test unit, which is not only with an aero kit but with a performance exhaust and sportier alloy wheels.

The starts at P1,400,000 for the Standard Transmission) and tops out at P2,100,000 for the Mugen (CVT with Shifters).
