Give the Hyundai i10 a few years and be the fastest car in the world. Sceptical? out the stats.

This is the new 1.2-litre version and, despite the being just 162cc than the base-spec petrol, 18 per cent more powerful, 20 per more torquey and despite the same emissions and economy seconds quicker to 60mph.

OK, so we’re still talking modest numbers 77bhp, ft and 12.8 seconds respectively but if they keep up that of progress with subsequent of engines. If they keep at this rate, by the time fitted a 1.6-litre engine, put out 160bhp and hit 60mph in 0.8 seconds. pretty quick.

In the meantime, this i10 will do just Put simply, it’s a proper cracker. Don’t be fooled by the pensioner-spec exterior: there’s of clever tech going on in the here hydraulic lash beehive valve springs and an crank all of which combine to the i10 feel quite unlike a city car.

It’s almost silent at revs cleanly and thanks in to sensible gearing is unobtrusive at motorway speeds. There’s power for all the around-town stuff: only when you start the i10 with shot-putters that it to strain.

And whisper it in case it invalidates five-year warranty the i10’s a bit of a laugh to drive. OK, the skinny mean grip levels are at best, but the i10 is so light that happily indulge in a bit of 205 GTi-style on wet roundabouts. Compared to its three-cylinder from Citroen, Peugeot and the i10 is in a different league.

The new Ka? Close one.

Before I in a flash of eulogy, there are a of quibbles. Reach-adjustable steering be nice, and do wonders for the slightly seating position. And, if being honest, the i10 still like the sort of car you’d parked in droves outside a retirement home.

But ignore all that. Even the 1.2 is just over eight only £200 more the vastly inferior 1.1-litre i10 and you get and electric stuff and basically you could ever need a little city car. And manage 56mpg and sneak the 120g/km CO2 tax bracket.

What could you want? Apart that imminent hypersonic
