‘s  ( NASDAQOTH: NSANY ) brand Infiniti this gave the world more about its intriguing Q50 Eau Rouge, a version of a high-performance luxury

And those details got the world’s

Infiniti had shown off the outside of the Eau in Detroit in January. But at the Geneva Motor Show this week, things got  interesting when the company the Eau Rouge’s engine, one that straight out of Nissan’s GT-R a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 making a 560 horsepower.

The surprise under the Eau hood: a 560-horsepower twin-turbo V6. credit: Infiniti

That’s power. That’s comparable to mighty CTS-V and BMW ‘s   ( BAMXF ) all-conquering M5, two of the fastest ever built — and it a serious statement about Nissan is taking its luxury Just as  General Motors   ( GM ) is making a big push to turn into a global luxury Nissan is doing much the with Infiniti.

If it goes into production, the Eau Rouge would be the brand’s flagship. Photo credit:

And as Fool contributor John explains in this video, a to build the Eau Rouge with tremendous V6 would instantly a lot of car-enthusiast credibility to Infiniti’s and it could end up serving as a much-needed for the brand.

John Rosevear:  Hey it’s John Rosevear. we talk about automakers and these days, we often about luxury cars. speaking, luxury cars are a business, in part because of a in demand in China, and since tend to be higher-profit products mainstream vehicles, we’ve several automakers push to their luxury offerings.

The visible one for us here in the U.S. has been Cadillac, GM has made strides in its effort to put Cadillac on the of BMW and Mercedes, but there’s a similar under way at Nissan. Nissan is big bucks to turn its Infiniti which was originally launched as of a me-too imitation of Toyota ( NYSE: TM ) Lexus for the U.S. they want to turn into a global luxury-vehicle Infiniti has a slew of new models development, and Nissan has big plans to expand the brand’s presence in and Europe, right in BMW’s

Their latest move was this past week at the International Motor Show, the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge sedan. Now Eau means red water in French, may not mean anything to you, but the name of one of the most famous on one of the world’s most famous the Spa racecourse in Belgium, very and important Formula 1 track. So is a name that connotes high performance with a accent.

Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge

Now the Q50 Eau Rouge wasn’t unveiled this week, we saw car at the North American International Show in Detroit in January, and it pretty good but Infiniti tell us all that much it at the time so we didn’t pay all that attention. The big news in Geneva is they revealed the Eau Rouge’s and it’s a doozy.

It’s a twin-turbo version of excellent V6, 3.8 liters, and it’s got 560 That’s a lot. That’s BMW M5 and CTS-V territory, and these are the fastest sedans ever

So Infiniti is making a big statement They say the Eau Rouge will be all drive, it’ll have a 7 gearbox, and it’ll go zero to in under 4 seconds and top out at around 180 per hour.

For a luxury sports that’s the big leagues.

Now, they build this it’s not going to sell in big it’s not going to add billions to global bottom line. But still really important. as BMW’s M cars, the M3 and M5 and so forth, pack extreme performance at a price, and BMW doesn’t sell all many, but the fact that exist makes the rest of the BMW seem that much desirable.

These are halo cars, an important part of the image of the BMW brand. Cadillac caught on to a while ago. When released the second-generation CTS-V in 2008, it was the fastest production car in the world, they could that up, and it was a great product for the auto critics drove it and about it, and this was all at a moment GM was going down the tubes, but it was key to putting Cadillac on the map of people who accustomed to looking past the luxury brands.

Clearly what Infiniti wants to do the Eau Rouge. Officially it’s a concept car right now, we know if they’re going to it, when they’ll build it, or it’ll cost, but it seems that the Infiniti brand really benefit from a car this in terms of raising with car enthusiasts around the and I think it’s a matter of not if. Thanks for watching, and Fool on.
