Charles Hurst displays electric car in Belfast

Charles Hurst in Belfast gave Vauxhall’s innovative Extended-Range Electric Vehicle, the Ampera. a plug this week by displaying the vehicle at an ‘ecar’ launch event in Belfast.

As the only retailer in Northern Ireland to stock the vehicle, the dealership on Boucher Road showcased the Ampera at an event in the City Hall grounds where details were announced of an infrastructure to support the increasing number of owners and drivers of electric vehicles in Northern Ireland.

Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, and Environment Minister, Alex Attwood, revealed details of the first phase of public charge points that are featuring across Northern Ireland as part of the ecar project, jointly led by Department for Regional Development and Department of the Environment.

Over 40 public ‘opportunity’ charge-points are currently available in Belfast, Londonderry, Newry, Armagh, Enniskillen and Larne, and this will increase to around 140 over the next year.

Ian Duncan, Sales Manager at Charles Hurst, comments: “It gave me great pleasure to present the Vauxhall Ampera at this special event. The ecar project is an important step towards providing a more sustainable future for Northern Ireland, and I’m proud that Charles Hurst is able to be a part of it.

“The Ampera officially launches in May, so I’d like to encourage all those who are interested in purchasing an electric vehicle, to come down to the dealership and speak to one of our team of experts to see what this innovative car can offer you.”

The launch Ampera comes with a raft of standard features, such as DAB radio, 7-inch touch-screen control monitor, cruise control and alloy wheels.

Adding a standard leather interior, with heated front seats and front/rear parking cameras with a rear view camera, the Positiv model sits in the middle of the Ampera range at £32,250 (inclusive of the £5,000 government plug-in car grant).

But topping the line-up is the Electron, which comes as standard with a state-of-the-art infotainment unit comprising features such as colour touch screen, satellite navigation system and bespoke Bose Engery Efficient Series sound system, and costs £33,995 (inclusive of the £5,000 government plug-in car grant).

Anyone, including business users, can take advantage of a Government grant that offers a saving of up to £5000 off the list price of a new electric car. In addition, the first 300 private or business users who buy an electric vehicle qualify for a £1,500 grant to install a charge point at their home or workplace.
