Kandi Technologies Launches the First Pure Electric Vehicle in China

As the developing world continues to grow, its citizens are starting to buy cars. This is a real problem with our current technology. Anyone that has seen the smog in Beijing or Shanghai knows that the world simply can’t support everyone using gas powered vehicles.

Kandi Technologies (NADSAQ: KNDI), a small-cap vehicle manufacturer out of China, may have just developed the car of the future.

Kandi Technologies is a relatively unknown player in the automobile industry and used to only manufacture small vehicles like go-carts and ATVs. However, this company seems on the verge of launching the very first fully electronic vehicle in the Chinese market. This is a big development as there aren’t many fully electric vehicles on the market today.

While the Prius from Toyota (NYSE: TM) and the Volt from General Motors (NYSE: GM) are all definite improvements in fuel efficiency, they still require some gasoline.

The fact that Kandi is a Chinese company gives it many advantages. The Chinese government is very committed to finding a gas-free driving option for its citizens and has given Kandi large financial subsidies. In addition, Chinese provincial governments all set up tax subsidies to encourage citizens to buy electronic vehicles.

Currently, electronic bikes are the vehicle of choice with roughly 120 million bike owners in China. Kandi has the potential to convert many of these people to its new product.

The main competitor to Kandi right now is Telsa Motors (NASDAQ: TLSA). Telsa launched its all electronic Roadster in 2008. When you compare these two companies side by side, Kandi looks like it’s in much better shape.

Telsa has struggled with production problems since launching its EV. It’s only actually produced a few thousand vehicles at this point. In addition, Telsa has been bleeding money and is over a billion dollars in debt. Kandi, on the other hand, has a solid looking balance sheet.

The company is operating at healthy margins based on the success of its other products. While Kandi’s production of EVs is still fairly low, the company seems in position to ramp things up later this year. Everything about Kandi looks better which is why a comparison of stock prices is so confusing.

Kandi is currently trading at $3.83 a share while Telsa is a soaring $45.45 a share. Considering the comparison of situations, how can this be possible? This price discrepancy likely has a lot to do with the fact that Telsa is an American company whereas Kandi is an unknown Chinese company. Telsa has gotten a ton of press over the years and investors, seeing the potential in EVs, poured in money. Kandi doesn’t get nearly as much press and is largely unknown outside of China.

This makes Kandi a hidden gem. If Telsa can hit over $40 a share on the potential of an unproven product line, just imagine what Kandi can do with a stronger balance sheet, a potentially better product, and support from the Chinese government.

Kandi is going to have some road bumps along the way. It could hit production delays. It might run into unexpected costs.

However, in the long-run this stock has a ton of potential for patient growth investors.
