Kia Soul EV vs. Soul GDI Visually Compared

Select States across the USA are gearing up for the arrival of the new Kia Soul EV 2015. the electric version of the iconic urban crossover.

The buzz surrounding the release of the carmaker s compact electric car has been huge for quite some time now, and it only got louder once the car was officially unveiled.

Lovers of the boxy little car that put Kia on the map will be delighted to see that the all-electric EV model has very similar styling to the second generation gas-powered model (available with two GDI 4-cyl. engines), but there are some differences to be found between the two.

Exterior Styling Changes

Lets start out by taking a look at the front of the EV to get an idea of what we are in for.

The first thing you will notice is the large, body-colored grille, which actually serves as a cover for the charging ports.

The shape of the headlights has been tweaked somewhat, and the front bumper has been given a fresh new look. Smaller foglights and air intakes are included in the new bumper design.

Side Profile Comparison

There are very few changes to be found when taking in the side profile, save for the addition of the stylish looking Eco Electric badge on the fender.

The wheels have been given a new look, though, with standard 16-inch alloys in place on the EV.

Rear-End Design tweaks

Around back, the basic shape of the EV is the same as the standard model.

The LED lights that feature in back are mounted in taillights that are slightly different in appearance over the gasoline version.

The bumper received a few subtle tweaks too, and of course there is no tailpipe to be found on the all-electric model.

Soul EV vs. Soul GDI Colors

Some of the biggest differences can be found in the color selections being offered for the Soul EV.

While the gasoline model has 9 available exterior colors, the Soul EV model comes with 3, although they are all exclusive to that particular model.

The colors are as follows:

— Caribbean Blue lower body with Clear White roof

— Pearl White lower body with Electronic Blue roof

— Bright Silver with Clear White roof.

Many of the design tweaks made to the Soul EV are reminiscent to the Track’ster concept that Kia released two years ago.

That includes the floating roof look and a greenhouse that will make you believe the Soul is wearing wraparound sunglasses.

The two-tone paint theme mentioned earlier was also found on the highly praised Kia concept vehicle .

Despite the changes that have been made to the overall look, there is no mistaking that the EV is part of the Soul family.

The first models should start showing up on the road come springtime, but as previously mentioned, only in certain states where the electric car infrastructure is already somewhat in place.
