Liberty Electric Cars is a clean technology company that over the past two years has developed unique and proprietary high performance electric powertrain technology that re-engineers existing vehicles, converting them to Pure Electric with zero-emissions at the tail pipe. Its solution is designed for large passenger cars like the iconic Range Rover and commercial vehicles. In addition Liberty Electric Cars provides e-kits to the transport sector and has recently signed an agreement with the chinese governemnt to convert 10 000 buses.

Liberty Electric Cars – the vision and mission.

The vision is to become the global leader for the profitable exploitation of innovative electric drive trains for light-duty trucks (LDTs) based on clean technologies, creating cars that are zero-emission, reduce noise pollution and provide high performance, quality and reliability.

The mission is the re-engineering of iconic production vehicles to create the most reliable, safe, easy to charge, cost effective, high performance, zero-emission Pure Electric Light Duty trucks (4x4s, SUVs, MPVs and pick-up trucks).

Groundbreaking technology.


What Liberty Electric Cars has achieved is at the forefront of electric vehicle development. The proprietary and patented technology works by engineering electric propulsion into existing vehicle platforms, replacing the internal combustion engine with electrical power via four on-board motors (one per wheel).

The unique energy storage system is an incredible world-first in battery management. At 75kw, the LEC battery pack is the largest ever installed in an electric car, and yet due to the technology employed, it weighs less than many lower capacity packs. The technology is also intrinsically safe, proving virtually impossible to start a thermal event under industry standard tests.

The energy density, unusually large cell size and fast charging times are also class leading, all of which has contributed to the outstanding performance of the vehicle.

Re-generative braking capacity means that the batteries are charged each time the brakes are applied. Furthermore, optional roof-mounted photovoltaic cells provide a trickle charge for ancillary items, such as air conditioning, even when the vehicle is stationary!

The lithium polymer battery pack is easily recharged by cable, from a standard electricity supply or by wireless charging – another world-first – where the car is simply parked over an induction plate and charged automatically without the need for plugs or power leads. The battery has an estimated lifespan of 300,000 miles or 13 years, and due to its unique design and cell structure, is one of the safest electric battery packs available on the market today.

The Liberty E-Range is the first platform to which the technology has been applied, allowing the consumer to enjoy the power, prestige and luxury of the iconic Range Rover without the cost to the environment. Independent tests have proven that the Liberty E-Range accelerates from zero to 60 in circa seven seconds, reaches a top speed of 100mph and has a range of 200 miles on one single charge.

This provides performance and range ability that has never before been achieved in the 4×4 sector and allows for significantly lower running costs when compared to internal combustion engine cars – for example those spending an average of £50 a week on petrol would see their costs reduce to just £10 a week (based on running cost of 3.92p/mile compared to 18.58p/mile).

Charismatic and well-educated, Barry holds expertise in international start-ups, fundraising and investor relations. Managing Director (UK and USA) – Ian Hobday

Ian has international experience in sales, marketing and general management and a track record of growing businesses and delivering profit improvement within multinational

The electric vehicle market – the background.

Government regulations and incentives are accelerating the growth of the electric vehicle market. Many governments in countries throughout the world are regulating vehicle emissions and fuel economy standards and offering incentives to consumers to purchase more energy efficient vehicles.

For example in 2009, the British government pledged to make £250m available for consumer incentives to bring electric cars to the market in the UK, setting out plans to offer subsidies of up to £5,000 to encourage the purchase of electric or hybrid vehicles by 2011. On 19 November 2009, the Secretary of State for Transport, announced a scheme called Plugged-in-Places, making available £30 million to be shared between three and six cities to investigate further the viability of providing power supply for electric vehicles, and encouraging local government and business to participate and bid for funds.

In 2009, the United States Government enacted a $2.4billion electric vehicle stimulus package with the goal of putting one million electric drive vehicles on the road by 2015. The United States Government also recently increased fuel economy standards and offers consumer tax credits of up to $7,500 for the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles.

In Europe, the European Union recently passed stricter vehicle emissions standards, several countries have instituted direct subsidies and significant tax exemptions for electric vehicles, and some cities exempt electric vehicles from congestion charges. In Asia, the Chinese government offers subsidies of up to approximately $8,800 per electric vehicle. Indeed, fines aimed at curbing tailpipe emissions from the European car industry which come into effect in 2015, could see the value of Liberty Electric Car’s business explode as car manufacturers seek to adopt proven electric car engineering solutions into their mainstream offers.

Shifting consumer preferences, together with government regulation and incentives will result in significant growth in the market for electric vehicles. According to Frost Sullivan, a business research and consulting firm, the market for electric-based vehicles, which includes electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, is expected to grow to approximately 10.6million units worldwide, or approximately 14% of new vehicles sold by 2015 from about 1.75million units or 3% of new vehicles sold in 2008.
