Mahindra Verito Vibe Review

Mahindra is seriously into the compact car segment. After the compact MPV, Quanto . the Indian company is entering the compact car segment with the Mahindra Verito Vibe . As anyone can guess, Verito Vibe is a Verito with a sliced boot. The car is under 4 meters in length and it’s not a hatchback as you will expect but a compact sedan.

Verito Vibe comes off as a confused car. Mahindra calls it a compact car but it doesn’t look like a sedan. It looks like a hatchback but it’s not a hatch (yeah, I know).

The rear is where the Verito Vibe gets all the changes and this is where all the confusions are also present. The boot opens but the glass doesn’t. While the 330-litre boot is quite big for a compact or hatchback standard, loading it with big bags is a difficult job no thanks to the small opening and high loading height. The rear looks seriously out of place and doesn’t gel with the rest of the car just like Mahindra’s other compact offering, Quanto.

The vertical tail lights are mounted on the top and do try to add some spice to a very plain rear.

On the inside, nothing is changed from Verito and Vibe just carries forward the spacious cabin of its sedan sibling. The seats are really comfortable and the rear seats can really boast to seat three people in considerable comfort.

The Verito Vibe will be offered with only a diesel engine, the proven 1.5-litre Renault engine with 65 PS of maximum power and 160 Nm of maximum torque. The motor is quite noisy but manages to score points with the performance. Though low in power, the car benefits from the torque that is made available as low as 1200 rpm with very minimal turbo lag.

The car pulls effortlessly in low speeds but the top end power leaves a lot to desire. Fuel efficiency is one of the highlights of the engine and the same applies in the Verito Vibe also.

The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox which has short throws and precise shifting. The ride quality is another highlight of the Verito Vibe with the cranky rattles of our Indian roads easily absorbed and isn’t transformed to our spines. Though this trait reflects to more body roll in the corners, this is one compromise we welcome. While the feedback on the steering wheel is good, what goes against it is the tight steering especially in low speeds.

And the slippery grip on it just adds to the woes.

Feature-wise, the top-end D6 variant gets electric ORVMs, front and rear power windows, 2 DIN music system with USB and Aux support, alloy wheels, ABS with EBD and driver airbag. Bluetooth connectivity is sorely missed though.

To round it up, Verito Vibe will not appeal to you because of its styling. But with a combination of great comfort, big boot space, superb ride quality and wonderful fuel efficiency, Verito Vibe comes off as a great alternative to the tiny hatchbacks that lack the aforementioned qualities.
