New 2013 Hyundai i10 to be named Brilliant for India?

While we are eagerly awaiting the launches of the Honda Amaze and the Ford EcoSport. yet another company has been silently working on an all new car that just might change things in its segment. The Korean giant has a knack of understanding the Indian customer very well and cars like the new Hyundai i20 and the new Elantra show just that. For a long time the i10 has been the cash cow for Hyundai but factors like rising petrol prices have exposed the lack of a diesel in the i10 s range. Hyundai will address that by launching a brand new small car which may replace the current i10.

This all new car is the new generation i10 or now codenamed as BA which we at believe should be launched in the next 2-3 months.

First lets deal with the name. Codenamed as the BA, we at have got to know that the all new 2013 i10 might just be called the Hyundai Brilliant in the Indian market, as against the popular notion of being called as i15. This is Hyundai s way to carving a different identity for this new small car just like what they did for the Eon. Of course an important factor in buying any car is looks and Hyundai cars are mostly one of the best looking in its class, the Brilliant will also be no different.

It is bigger in every way and is completely different looking. As our rendering shows it certainly looks bigger and more like the i20.

Now onto the engines and the big news is that the Hyundai Brilliant might very well have a diesel option. The diesel engine will be a three cylinder version of the i20 s diesel engine. We expect the Hyundai Brilliant to make 68 bhp and around 160 Nm of torque along with a rated economy of 24-25kmpl.

The petrol option might be the same unit powering the i10 and the i20. The diesel if launched, will be expected to form the bulk of the sales.

The final part of our exclusive report is the price. The Brilliant should have aggressive pricing and if this is THE car coming to India, expect it to be priced 35-45,000 less than the i20, while not compromising on features. We expect the Hyundai Brilliant base petrol to start from Rs 4 lakhs and the base diesel to start from Rs 5 lakhs.

Excellent value we say!

Can this be the next wave of change in the Indian mid-size hatchback segment? You bet!

PS: Hyundai India hasn t revealed anything officially. has been informed by one of its readers who booked a i10 last week about this development at one of the dealerships.
