The 1991 Saturn SL2 wasn’t my car. Those honors go to a Ford F-150 with a on the tree shifter — but it was my away from home for at three years.

I picked up the car a friend of my Mom for a grand. It was a steal with just more 100,000 miles it was barely in. It burned more oil than retreating troops, which I had to keep a few quarts in the trunk for the oil pressure light came on.

Other than that, it was a machine — when I it.

The SL2s came with a cam four-cylinder, which made it quick, at least to my uninitiated end. It had a power button sport-mode buttons were all the I barely used it though, it would hold shifts until the redline, laying a Spy Hunter-style smokescreen when I hit the

It had a power sunroof, which at one point. Eventually it stopped, me to carry a star bit driver in the When it was summer, I would it for a few days; when it rained, I it. At one point, I was heading home God knows where, and I thought I had at one screw in. At about 70 mph on the expressway, the caught some wind and off the top of the car, shattering into the lane.

I found another one with a new motor and installed it, which led to my problem.

The headliner sagged, my view out of the rear window. I it for a while, then stapled it, and just ripped it out, I should have done it ago.

The hunter green which I affectionately named after Riff-Raff’s girlfriend in the cartoon, had a good shudder at when on the brakes. I tuned it up, put a new filter and changed all the fluids, but it stopped. Probably needed mounts.

Cleo ran nearly 100,000 miles before she finally in due to a blown transmission. I donated her to one of charities.

I went back to the car to up a license plate and a few other out of the trunk. The mechanics had it fixed and ready to go to someone needy.

I I saw the car several years later, ripped up headliner and a newer-looking but I’m sure it wasn’t I checked, I still had the key.

Editor’s note: We’re a few minutes this Memorial Day to the cars that got away. they were first or just favorite wheels, are some of the machines that us who we are today.
