The Noble M600

In recent years, the majority of the UK’s automobile manufacturing centers have been sold to car companies in other, far-flung countries around the world. The cottage industry in Britain, however, has not experienced the same fate. It is still alive, well and thriving. One firm that leads this industry, Noble, has recently announced the development of a new super sport car that will rival the flagship models from some of the marquee names in the world of exotic cars, namely Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini.

The Noble M600, which will replace the M400 model, will build upon Noble’s proven formula of combining an incredibly lightweight chassis and body with a ridiculously powerful motor. The result should be a road-worthy track car, with excessive power and speed.

Though Noble’s founder, Lee Noble, has left the company, the M600 will carry his legacy forward. As with models before it, the new super car will feature a mid-mounted engine positioned for ideal weight distribution. The new Noble will borrow its motor from Yamaha; it will be the same 4.4-liter V8 that Volvo chose for its XC90, but not surprisingly, it will be tuned to deliver a lot more than the 311 horsepower that it produced for the Swedes. The increase in raw horsepower is of vital significance, but it is the M600’s horsepower and traction selection system that will likely engender the most buzz. At the twist of a dash-mounted knob, the driver will have the ability to choose between a 450-horsepower “Road” mode with full traction control, a 550-horsepower “Track” mode with limited traction control and a hold-on-for-dear-life “Race” mode that cranks out 650 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.

Keeping with Noble’s purist philosophy, the M600 will only be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which sends the motor’s power to the rear wheels.

The M600’s design does not radically depart from previous Noble models, preserving the basic wedge shape and sleek, aerodynamic aesthetics. The real news is the 600’s all carbon-fiber body. This choice will make the car extremely light – it should weigh in at around 2750 pounds – and yield a power-to-weight ratio that surpasses the Bugatti Veyron’s.

This is a super car that redefines the character of fast cars.

While the Noble M600 will exhibit the company’s longstanding dedication to engineering high-performance super cars, it will depart from Noble’s tradition in one important aspect – pricing. Noble has indicated that the price point of the M600 will be set in the same realm as that of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which costs around $245,000. Whereas previous Noble’s offered Porsche Turbo performance for Porsche Carrera money, the M600 does not appear to be following suit.

It seems that Noble has decided to push its pricing into the stratospheric realm of elite super cars, where the performance abilities of its autos have dwelled for quite some time.
