Volkswagen aims to source vehicle batteries from in just a few years.

As I mentioned in my posting, Volkswagen Group’s Dr. Giebel, head of the Volkswagen Lab in Shanghai, sounded quite about the potential to develop a supplier base in China at the EV Forum in Shanghai in November. Of it behooves him to sound optimistic—it is his job to that supplier base and one likes to feel as if they are at their job.

Volkswagen  is working closely about 20 of China’s than 100 producers, and is already seeing he said.  “We think in a couple of we will have really suppliers in fully domestic said Giebel.   they are up to global standards, will use the same Chinese for its Asia, Europe, and the United operations, he said.

Today, lithium-ion battery makers are on consumer technology, said Its automotive-grade batteries are not up to the high-level traction battery manufacturers in or Japan, he said.

But, “we are observing in these our first success of the Chinese said Giebel in a later communication.  “Therefore we are optimistic Chinese vehicle traction cells will become soon.”

He added:  “We will not lower safety, quality, or for our Chinese business.”

A Chinese that can meet Volkswagen’s could have the opportunity to le (get rich). That’s VW Group will use the same module design for all its electric globally across all its brands, Giebel. And the battery modules cells in them) are likely to be from China, he said.

“The module shape and of cells will be the same,” Giebel.  “The module is not of any international norm. It is a company standard.”

That means all plug-in hybrid electric, electric, and fuel cell produced under the Volkswagen 10 nameplates, which include Skoda, Audi, Seat, Porsche, Scania, Bugatti, and Volkswagen commercial vehicles.

Inside the module, Volkswagen adapt the connection between the to vary the number of parallel and cells, said Giebel. The is a company internal standard, he

As Volkswagen’s current parallel models, including the Tuareg have a different technology, will use the standard module first on battery electric and hybrid electric models, Giebel.  “The extension to hybrid (HEV) will be later,” he said.

Giebel may be a bit or pressure to bring those suppliers up to speed.   Volkswagen said it would begin two electric vehicles with its partners as soon as late    Volkswagen partners SAIC  and FAW   in China. Both are state-owned enterprises.

Each has produced a prototype vehicle with VW and launched its own EV    Each has its own captive supplier group, but I’m that won’t play a in supplier selection….
