Why BMW would be interested in investigating in Autolib system and Bolloré Bluecar?

Bolloré accuses BMW of industrial espionage. According to the French company has reported, last August would have caught a few technicians working on the development of the BMW i3. Apparently two engineers, with their laptops, compiled information from one of Bolloré leased vehicles and charging points across the city of Paris.

Someone alerted to what was happening, took the license plate and later found that they were employees of P3, Outsourced by BMW.

But before you go what exactly Bolloré? Although many find it a wholly unknown, Bolloré is the driver of one of the largest networks in the world shared cars, Autolib (our colleague Luis Miguel Ortego and Autolib auditioned a year ago). With nearly 1,800 units of Bolloré Bluecar, an unmistakable electric utility designed by Pininfarina, rolling through Paris, Bolloré has become a benchmark for urban mobility of the present and the future. It is also leader in the development of solutions for electric utilities.

Without going any further, it was recently announced that Renault and Bolloré would join forces to extend their services and market their products outside France.

Therefore it is quite understandable that Bolloré suspect the performance of these engineers at BMW service, but denies that the German brand has been well and given explanations. In Bolloré have been pioneers in the use of certain energy storage technologies such as batteries lithium ion polymer (other than the usual lithium ion), and loading and geolocation systems applicable to networks Autolib car sharing. which already has more than 65,000 customers.

According to members of Autolib, the first would have been detected suspicious movements on 21 and 22 August. At the time it was found that those alleged customers P3 and indirectly working for BMW, alerted the authorities, who on September 5 others have questioned Autolib clients suspected of industrial espionage. There seems to be no evidence that BMW has collected sensitive information and Bolloré acknowledges his ignorance of what they were up to these engineers.

Obviously BMW has denied the allegations and any of its employees was arrested that September 5. On the other hand do not deny that its engineers were testing the Bolloré Bluecar in August and doing some tests of the Autolib charging stations in Paris, but with the purpose of verifying whether they would be compatible with the new BMW i3.

The explanations are understandable. Recall that Autolib has assembled a vast network of charging points, over 1,000 alone in Paris Area, which also serve to recharge the Bolloré Bluecar car sharing is available for electric cars from other customers. The price is one euro recharge time, but monthly subscriptions are available for 15 euros, very economical rate which undoubtedly would use electrical life like Bluecar or as the i3, in the French capital.
