The 2014 Range Rover clearly demonstrates how far Land and especially its top-scale Range brand, has come since its change of ownership.

New Direction

Agile begins with a 800-lb. weight reduction vs. the 2013 Sport, thanks to its 25-percent-stiffer all-aluminum unibody a version of the full-size Range (and a technology shared recent Jaguars). It’s through an advanced 4-wheel air-spring (double wishbone multi-link rear) suspension automatic load leveling, cross-link valving and four modes (from lowest to Access, Standard, Off-road and Height.

The latest Land Rover Response 2 system offers settings — General, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Rock — through a console-mounted switch, plus an Auto that automatically selects the program. Each one adapts the of the engine, transmission, differentials, and systems to optimize traction and and they are complemented by Hill Control (HDC), Gradient Control (GRC), Hill Assist (HSA), Dynamic Control (DSC), Electronic Control (ETC), and Roll Control (RSC).

The Supercharged V-8 models’ Terrain 2 system has a dedicated Dynamic that stiffens the suspension, the steering and enhances performance for on-road driving. A Torque by Braking feature uses light braking to simulate the handling effect of a torque-vectoring while Adaptive Dynamics variable dampers to continuously ride and control.

Brakes are power 4-wheel with Electronic Brake-force (EBD), Advanced Emergency Assist (AEBA), 4-channel Anti-lock Brakes, electronic brake and Emergency Brake Steering is energy-efficient electric rack-and-pinion. Wheels and tires from standard 19-inch to 20-in. 21-in. and terrain 22-in. ground clearance 8.4 (Standard) to 10.9 in. (Off-Road), angles from 24.3 to 33 in. angles from 24.9 to in. and ramp break-over from to 27 in.


And the 2014 Range Rover will happily wade up to 33.5 in. of water.
