A Tale of Two Lincolns

Lincoln has suffering an identity crisis for some time now.

out a series of rebadged and gussied-up just ain’t enough to this brand to its former we’re talking many past) level of prestige and Currently, the Edge crossover the MKX, the Taurus the MKS, the the Navigator and the Flex the MKT. At the latter has significantly different metal.

And of course there was the last-gen MKZ – a mid-size Ford Fusion a barely perceptible layer of and some extra cow and timber A decent car, but ultimately so Ho

Enter the 2013 Lincoln Ta da . Penned by in-house stylist Max (fantastic name, by the way), radical new sedan is the first of the reimagined Lincoln – a car that finally give this the mojo and momentum it so dearly So Lincoln tells us.

I will say this. My MKZ 3.7 AWD tester base) in Bordeaux Reserve Red (another fantastic name) more unsolicited positive from onlookers than any car in recent memory. It truly is and unique.

If Lincoln is looking for identity they’ve got a good here.

And if you think the snout is an note that the “split grille was introduced way back in on the Lincoln-Zephyr. So they own this

Running down the side of the MKZ is a ‘shoulder’, concluding at a blunt end featuring a side-to-side swath of LED

Indeed, the 2013 MKZ follows the playbook by being based on the Ford Fusion, but no one will that this all-new is not a great starting point. The are good, and that translates to the MKZ.

look at the MKZ Hybrid first. At Lincoln is not charging a premium for technology as the “base” front-drive MKZ 2.0L EcoBoost has the same (The mechanically identical SE Hybrid starts at $29,999.)

To me, this 2013 MKZ Hybrid is a package in a weird, retro, kinda’ way. This easily have been vision of the car-of-the-future, back I was a little tyke.

First, the bodywork, turbine-fan wheels, taillights and front LED headlamps defy the darkness with a white light.

Second, the technology. With the key in your the doors automatically unlock!

Peer inside and the centre houses a real TV – the rest of the architecture sweeps away in all its hard plastic glory. lots of silvery hard too. And we all know how cool and hard plastic is.

Like all cars-of-the-future, our MKZ Hybrid has a glass that retracts ($3,450) and start. And like the Edsel, the are selected by pushing buttons Ahhhhh.

Place yourself in the and you’ll feel it squeezing lower back a bit more expected. Apparently, people-of-the-future be thinner and in great shape.

Other than a few lashings of there are no gauges. How can anybody with no gauges? Time to that Start/Stop button and this atomic puppy up.
