Lotus Electric Cars

Tesla, Detroit Electric, Smart ED. and Zap have all used Lotus design elements.

The Tesla Roadster is based on the Lotus Elise. The now defunct Dodge Circuit was based on the Lotus Europa platform.

The Roadster shares many of its chassis components with the Lotus Elise. The Elise chassis is one of the lightest and well tuned of all sport cars. The Tesla uses Elise design elements, but the materials are carbon fiber.

Zap had entered into a project with Lotus to design and manufacture a super fast SUV. The specs were incredible given the state of the technology in 2007…no word to date on the project.

2002, the Lotus company was acquired by Proton Malaysia. The company continues to design and produce cutting edge vehicles. Proton has also recently partnered with Detroit Electric to produce the e46 and e63 model EV’s.

The specs for these cars are impressive and demonstrate another form of the Lotus electric car.

The PG Elektrus

While Lotus has finishes up Roadster production, a new EV based on the Elise platform enters production: the German based PG Elektrus. PG currently makes lightweight carbon frames and e-bikes.

The Elektrus matches up well with the Roadster, listing a 215 mile range, 200 kW (270 hp) motor, and 258 ft-lb of torque. Governed top speed is 155 mph (250 kph) and it hits 60 mph in under 3 seconds. that will push you back in the seat.

PG Elektrus production is limited to around 700 units. Each car will retail for $370,000 USD. The cars share similar specs. The Roadster is a bit more powerful, and heavier.

Pound for pound, the Roadster looks like a better deal.
