2010 Mazda Tribute Hybrid Overview

The 2010 Mazda Tribute Hybrid is the fun-SUV answer to the fuel-efficient hybrid crowd.

Under the Tribute’s hood is a 153-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-four that gets paired to a 70-kilowatt electric motor, for a combined rating of 177 horsepower. During deceleration, the electric motor acts as a generator, and uses the Tribute Hybrid’s momentum to generate electricity and recharge the battery. You like to go fast? The electric motor kicks in when you dig your foot into the accelerator for some quick velocity gains. The Tribute Hybrid can run in full electric mode up to 25 mph.

Power is sent through a continuously variable transmission to a two- or all-wheel drive system, delivering a net fuel economy rating of 29-34 mpg in the city and 27-31 mpg on the highway.

This high-tech powertrain earns the Tribute Hybrid the Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle from the California ARB, and Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II Rating from the EPA. The 2010 Mazda Tribute Hybrid is comparable to the Ford Escape Hybrid, and it gets better city mileage than the 2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid. Utility is high, with over 1,000 pounds of available payload capacity.

A fun-to-drive character is part of every Mazda, and the strong unibody frame with four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering add to a great driving dynamics package. Variable assist electric power steering enhances the driving experience and helps boost fuel economy.

Interior accommodations include plenty of cargo room, to the tune of 31.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 67.2 cubic feet with the rear seats down. The Tribute Hybrid is available in Touring and Grand Touring models, and offers standard/optional features including a CD player, fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, six-CD changer, seven-speaker audio system, leather seats with heat for the front two, leather-wrapped steering wheel, backup camera and power moonroof.

Antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution provide great stopping performance. Mazda’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Roll Stability Control (RSC) help the driver keep the 2010 Mazda Tribute Hybrid under control when grip is compromised. A full set of six airbags join the sturdy unibody frame to earn the Tribute stellar Five-Star crash ratings in all NHTSA impact tests.

Superior fuel economy and fun are engineered into the body and soul of the 2010 Mazda Tribute Hybrid, so you can zoom-zoom without being punished at the pump.
