P1 is the most exciting, technologically sophisticated and dynamic supercar launched by Mclaren at Geneva motor show. Visually, the production version of the McLaren P1 differs practically only by additional air intakes in front from the concept shown in paris motor show, thus fulfilling the request of many McLaren customers, the design of car is as close as possible to the concept car.

In the technical arsenal Mclaren P1 is equipped with adaptive dampers and traction control system with five operating modes. The car has a hybrid propulsion system, which combines a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine developing 737 hp and a electric motor producing 179 hp. Total output unit is mighty 916 hp, and peak torque of 900 Nm.

According to Mclaren, P1 can upto 20 kilometers in electric mode at a speed of 48 km/h. The battery weighs 96 kilograms and is placed between seats and the engine. It has a higher power density that any other car battery on sale today. Thus the McLaren P1 both on the track and in everyday life can provide the most thrilling experience, standard new carbon-ceramic brake discs are used, which have never been used in a road vehicle.

The brake system was developed by Akebono Brake Corporation the same manufacturer, who also supplies the brake discs of McLaren racing cars in Formula 1. An automatic double clutch seven gearbox is responsible for transmitting the torque to the rear wheels.

McLaren P1 body itself is designed for the maximum aerodynamic efficiency (drag coefficient is 0.34). The company says that at high speeds the car creates a downforce which is five times more than the MP4-12C. In addition, the supercar features active aerodynamic elements in front and behind (retractable/adjustable rear wing), which is able to change both the height and angle at high speed to keep the car stable.

According to Mclaren, P1 can will deliver a combined fuel efficiency of 8.5 km/liter (20 mpg) and average carbon-dioxide emission is less than 200 gm/km.

Just like in Formula 1, tires play a central role in the P1 performance, which is why tire partner Pirelli was involved from the beginning in the development of the vehicle. The results are high-performance tires exactly tailored to the supercar. which contribute greatly to the extreme dynamic performance of the aerodynamically P1. At the core is a carbon fiber monocoque supercar weighing only 100 kg with a special hole in the roof, through which the air flows for engine cooling.

Body panels are made primarily of carbon fiber. The total weight of the car is 1400 kg.

Highway speed from 0-10 km/h(0-60 mph) is reached in less than 3 seconds and goes on to crack the 300 mark in just 17 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h. Acceleration is similar to the Porsche 918 Spyder and sligthly lower than the new LaFerrari. On the steering wheel of P1, two buttons are available that activate functions IPAS (Instant power assist system) and DRS (Drag reduction system).

The IPAS forces the electric motor to immediately deliver the power available and the DRS reduces aerodymic drag.

Mclaren will only produce 375 copies of its hybrid supercar. Regardless of the design, however, is sure that the sight of a McLaren P1 in normal traffic is expected to be an unforgettable experience for many car enthusiasts. Mclaren P1 will cost 8,66,000 pounds which is approximately one million euros and 1.3 million US dollars.
