McLaren released performance figures and data earlier today (Feb. 26,2013 ) on their next halo car.5 months earlier, the world saw the McLaren P1 during its official reveal at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and according to McLaren little has changed. What results is nothing less than astonishing compared to the current supercar market as it stands today.

Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) provides astonishing acceleration: 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) in less than 17 seconds, more than 35% faster than the legendary McLaren F1

Top speed electronically limited to 350 km/h (218 mph)

The production number has been limited to 375 units

Base price in the US is $1,150,000

Fully equipped as standard for road and track use

Production model is almost unchanged from the original design study

First of all, McLaren’s Instant Power Assist System in conjunction with a Drag Reduction System technology straight from Formula 1) translates to a 0-60mph time of less than three seconds and a 0-186mph time of just 17 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited at 218 MPH . which means that the P1 has more to give, given free reign from the ECU.

Speaking of the engine, simply put, its a twin-turbo charged V8 tour de force of technology that pumps out 727 HP and 531 lbs-ft of torque all partnered together with an electric motor ( the engine blocks unique casting allows for seamless electric motor integration).

The lighweight electric motor is also nothing to scoff at (made exclusively by McLaren’s electronic group) it produces 176 HP and 213 lbs-ft of torque . When combined with the engine, provides 663 lbs-ft of total torque . which makes for tire smoking launches.

With a base price of $1,150,000 McLaren further emphasized that this is a supercar friendly to city streets and highways. According to McLaren,

“The company prides itself on designing performance cars that their owners can use regularly so the McLaren P1 comes comprehensively equipped as standard with an array of colour and trim alternatives from which the customer will be able to choose as well as visible carbon fibre in the cabin. The options list is limited to only bespoke content that a customer might wish to add through McLaren Special Operations, and fitted luggage.”

The mark of a truly high performance car company is the emphasis on having a good relationship with its tire manufacturer and building a supercar from the tires up, and McLaren has done just that. With its partnership with Pirelli, the P1’s tires are specially developed P Zero Corsas with special compound and construction that perfectly compliments the P1.

And finally, the McLaren P1 Supercar is capable of driving on electric only power up to 30 MPH for a total range of 12 miles. In Eurpoe, zero emission zones designate areas where normal combustion powered cars are restricted and only electric cars allowed. This would eneable the mighty P1 with all its power, to drive around a zero emmisions zone legally.

The McLaren P1 supercar sets the bar much higher than what a regular supercar can be. It’s a jack of all trades and a master of all. Expect to pay a premium above the MSRP from an owner, as all models have already sold out prior to official production.
