Mistubishi i-MiEV – Electric Car

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Car Tax Exempt

Due to the Mitsubishi i-MiEV running only on electric power, it is exempt from road tax. So, if you live in and around London, you bypass the congestion charge. It also means that in some London boroughs and in Milton Keynes, you get free parking if you drive a i-MiEV Electric Car. which is handy.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Zero C02 Emissions

The only emission from the i-MiEV is a slight whir from the electric motor. There are no nasty CO2 gases that are pumped out; in fact, there isn’t even an exhaust pipe! This is the future of cars; no more putrid fumes.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Safety Features

Mitsubishi has always been big on safety. In the i-MiEV, there are driver and passenger airbags and power steering. ABS (anti-lock brakes) are fitted as standard to help in the event of heavy braking and to stop the car skidding.

The body of the car is designed to absorb the forces and redirect them away from the cabin in the event of an accident.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Cost Per Mile

For 12,000 miles of driving in a i-MiEV, it costs around £270 (based on £0.10 per kWh). That’s the average number of miles people in the UK do over the course of a year. Depending on petrol prices this figure could be at least treble for a petrol-engine car.

There is no company car tax either, which makes it a great ‘fleet’ car.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Space

Although the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is small, it surprisingly has a lot of room inside. It is light and airy, the seats are comfy and the dashboard surrounds the front passengers nicely. The suspension is compliant and rides bumps easily, and never gets to out of sync with the body movement.

Overall, for a small car, it is comfortable.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Interior

With millions invested into the electric motor, it would be scandalous for Mitsubishi to scrimp on other parts. The interior is of a very high standard and it looks like it will last a long time. Some car manufacturers know that people will replace their car after a few years and therefore the quality of the parts has a shelf-life, but not in the i-MiEV.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Performance

You cannot expect much from the performance of an electric city car. The 0-60mph time is around the 15 second mark, but by straining the motor you are simply depleting the batteries quicker. The top speed is 83mph, but again, you will need to recharge more often if you test its capabilities.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Boot Space

The boot space in the Mitsubhishi i-Miev is tiny and only a few bags can be squeezed in. You could fit a week’s shopping in but there is no space for anything large. Getting parked is easy with the tight turning circle and small size.

If you have a garage, you can almost park it in sideways.

Mistubishi i-MiEV – Tyres

There’s not much to say about the handling of the Mitsubhishi i-Miev. other than the grippy but small tires do their best come rain or shine and they don’t give up easily.
