Details of New likely Mirage range are as yet, though Mitsubishi’s and marketing strategy head Cook says we can expect the new to be exceptionally well priced and efficient. “Fuel economy to be best-in-class: we’re hearing like 4 litres per 100km, or 83 per gallon. Emissions will be very low, too”.

The new Mirage, similar in size to the Mitsubishi Colt. will be by a high-power 1.2 litre MIVEC with CVT auto transmission and fuel-saving Auto Stop and Go technology. Other contributions to economy will come, Cook, from painstakingly weight from almost part of the car, plus in rolling resistance from the gear, brakes and tyres and the body aerodynamics.

“Apart being a great-looking and highly family car the new Mirage will its owner a good measure of against future fuel rises”, Cook says. “At fuel prices it promises an drive for about $90”.

Outlander-size plug-in hybrid has 800 km range

At the Tokyo Show will also unveil two of its Outlander-size Concept PX-MiEV This is Mitsubishi Motors’ for a mid-size plug-in hybrid that uses existing technology to deliver, on one hand, EV performance and quietness, and on the other, SUV and long cruising range.

To this, MMC’s unique hybrid system fuses EV technology with a compact, efficiency 2-litre 70kW petrol engine. This provides not only an estimated efficiency of 1.7 litres per 100km, far of a conventional SUV, but also a range of over 800 km.

However, in everyday situations it can be driven in mode alone, with its batteries providing power to 50 km.

Depending on power consumption and battery charge the system the petrol engine automatically as a using the engine to help the wheels as necessary. At any time the has push-button freedom to select EV only — for example, in to drive quietly and emissions-free (at battery levels) in residential — or switch the engine to mode to charge the batteries.

The drivetrain uses a new twin-motor 4WD mated to Mitsubishi’s S-AWC Wheel Control) advanced control system, based on honed in the Lancer Evolution X. As as great handling, the Concept II has the acceleration of a 3.0-litre V6, released by the instant off-the-line torque in its two 60kW permanent magnet electric motors.

Mitsubishi’s EV quick off the rank

Also at the show will be Mitsubishi’s mass-produced EV — the MINICAB-MiEV commercial commuter vehicle of the commonly used in Japan for small passenger groups in areas — and the now-familiar electric car. currently on here in New Zealand (and in of the world) and shortly to roll out in the States.

It does this the HEMS Home Energy System and MMC’s own EIS (Electric Integration System). HEMS compares the power that’s with the power being optimizing both to reduce the of energy shortages and energy

EIS monitors the electric vehicle’s useage and efficiency (which depending on how it is driven) and HEMS this information to optimize from the house, so the electric is always topped up.

*Visitors to Toyko Motor Show can even get an EV coffee. An i-MiEV parked beside the stand’s Café” will feed 1500 W to power the barista’s machine.
