Nissan Electric Van Gets Positive Response

Having originally been showcased in late 2012, Nissan’s new e-NV200 electric van has been welcomed by the fleet industry with what can only be described as a very positive attitude.

At Nissan’s Barcelona production facility the company held a presentation to which 5 leasing companies, 6 major fleet operators and 3 used value guides were invited, and all were invited to drive not only the e-NV200 but also a diesel NV200 and the all-electric Nissan LEAF. The Barcelona trip followed successful trials with major fleets such as British Gas, FedEx and the Japan Post Service in 2011 and 2012 as Nissan prepares the e-NV200 for mainstream production.

At the presentation the invited group got the chance to meet the e-NV200 development team and then share their thoughts on all aspects of the vehicle, especially with regards to how they would see the new vehicle fitting into a fleet strategy. Nissan tool the chance to share their own vision when it comes to the evolution of the Electric Vehicle, including product creation, development and future EV plans.

Many of the delegates were keen to put the 100% electric van’s driving and performance characteristics into immediate use.

Matthew Dale, Nissan’s national LCV sales manager was a delighted figure after the presentation: “We were blown away with the response and we already have leasing companies and fleet operators who want to trial the vehicle, and some who want to order a fleet of vehicles for urban delivery use. After driving the vehicle on the two day trip they could immediately see the business benefit of running electric vans across specific parts of a fleet. Commercial vehicles are working tools and our guests recognised both the savings in fuel costs and reduced emissions offered by the e-NV200.”

Although initially it is the fleet side of the industry that the e-NV200 will see its future, but in later years, from a residual value perspective, there is a big role to be played by the used guides as used prices should be strong and consistent based on the vehicle’s practicality and whole life costs, which will give it not only a second but also a third life in the used market.

“Residual values are key to the success of any commercial vehicle so we were pleased to hear some very positive initial comments from the used vehicle experts,” said Matthew Dale.

The e-NV200 is expected to go on sale in 2014.
