Pontiac Grand Am Parts Accessories

There are basically two things that the Pontiac Grand Am would offer you: sporty performance and large, family friendly interiors. These are two characteristic seldom found on a single car. Amazingly, this American best seller has been providing these qualities for 20 years.

And just before this wonderful car finally takes a bow and exits, it shows you that it can offer something more.

The Pontiac Grand Am was a small, compact car manufactured and sold by General Motors’ Pontiac Motors Division from 1985 to 2005. When it was introduced in 1985, it was available in 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan body styles. It was based on the GM N-platform and similar to the Buick Somerset (Buick Skylark starting 1987) and Oldsmobile Calais (Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais starting 1987).

The first generation of the car lasted until 1991.

In 1992, the Pontiac Grand Am together with the rest of the GM N-platform based cars were redesigned. When re-introduced in 1992, it still seats on the GM N-platform with the same wheelbase length as the previous generation, but it grew about six inches in length. For this generation, the Pontiac Grand am shared its chassis and most of its parts with the Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva and Chevrolet Corsica/Beretta.

It was still available in coupe and sedan body styles and was offered in SE and GT trim levels.

A third redesign, made for the 1999 model year, gave the Pontiac Grand Am a new body design and styling. It is now based on the same design as the Oldsmobile Alero, although similarities are not apparent because of the considerable differences in styling. While two body styles were still offered for this generation, the 4-door sedan model was not included in its 2005 model line-up while the rest of the Pontiac Grand am line-up is expected to be dropped after the 2005 model year.

In its expected last year, the Pontiac Grand Am comes in two trim levels, GT and GT1, both in coupe body styles and equipped with the 3.4-liter Ram Air V6 engine. Standard transmission for both models is a 4-speed automatic electronically controlled unit with overdrive.

The Pontiac Grand Am proves, through the years, that it can compete well with its rival compact cars that are equipped with more powerful engines. And it will continue to do so for as long as it is equipped with high performance and high quality Pontiac Grand Am parts.
