Your Ride: 1969 GTO

When he was a senior in high our reader Chris came the prettiest Pontiac he had ever — a 1969 GTO. Like any Chris knew he had to have it. So, in he picked up this stunning and never looked back.

How did you your ride?

I have my 69′ GTO since 1992 when I was a in high school. I had a welding and I had to travel to a different school day. My friend Jason the GTO and we talked about it. It looked in shape and we joked about it for sale and costing only$

Sure enough, we went and at it one day and it was for sale and for $3,500 shockingly!

My Dad and I came back and test it and were hooked and had to have it.

What drew you to it when you it?

Does it have a name?

Of all the I have owned it I have not named it. I call it my “Ol’ typically or “Rompin Stompin

What do you feel like you drive it?

It feels great, I taken it to several shows and races including the Tiger Run in and won 1st and 2nd places in the modified class! I had numerous people tell me had one just like it and to never it. One memory I have– I was driving it one day and a guy up on a motorcycle and scared the crap out of me by sticking his head in my car and yelling car and don’t sell it!

My Dad and I have owned several over the years and have to several of the All Pontiac shows. We met so many Pontiac greats Jim Wagners the man behind all the marketing of in the 60′s, Pete McCarthy and his and even got head porting Arnie Beswick, Jim Butler, Fulper, Dave Bischof of SD and so many others.

One year at the Run in Bend Oregon, I spoke to Jim and he autographed the under side of my lid and there it remains till as a great reminder of the awesome

What you would change your car, if anything?

the need for more pontiac I would love to change the heads to some ported and add a Victor intake and possibly a camshaft!

What have you to make it a bolder ride?

I done quite a bit to my car over the during the resto. The car now has a 70′ 455 bored .60 to a 468 with ported #96 heads the heat cross over and a port matched Torquer 2 and a modified Holley 850 carb. The train consists of a Comp 300B6 solid camshaft 600 and 610 lift and 300 duration and a 106LSA, the are comp cams hardened and the rocker arms are Norris steel 1.65 ratio and topped with a Comp stud girdle for the ARP screw in

The pistons are TRW forged flat with file fit plasma rings, the rods are factory that have been ground smooth, shot and had the beams polished. The heads and end are both studded with ARP The oil pan is a Canton 7QT with baffles.

The Transmission is a built up TH400 a deep aluminum pan and a Continental 10″ stall converter along Aeroquip teflon lines to a tru cool max 4739 45000GVW with AN fittings, the driveshaft is a Nitrous ready 3.5″ unit with a Mark chromoly slip yoke, the yoke is also a forged and all held together with solid body 1350 u joints and I also added a bolt on Caruso Performance loop for safety.

The exhaust of ceramic coated hooker comp headers with the trimmed around each for better sealing and looks, 3″ aluminized mandrel bent Technologies exhaust with a DR. Gas X and stainless Pypes Race Pro The rear end is an 8.5 10 bolt with gears and bolt in axles and a cover, the suspension consists of BMR adj control arms, Indian adj lower control arms, 2′ lower springs in the rear and HO up front and Koni SPA1 Hotchkiss frame strengthing HrpartsNstuff adj anti roll bar heim joints. The fuel consists of a factory tank with a 1/2″ pickup and -8 line and a Mallory Comp 140 pump and regulators and filter.

I also added an NOS Cheater adj 250HP system for some kick!

I have 3 sets of 1: Weld Pro Stars 15×7 and with BF Goodrich 275/60/15 and 235/60/15 fronts, 2: Center 15×8.5 and 15×3.5 with Thompson Drag radials and Mickey Thompson sportsman 8 ply and 3rd is Center Line 15×8.5 Hoosier 28×11.5×15 Quick Pro tires! As you can see I have done a lot to my car and going with it!

Dream for it and why?

I would love to an Indian Adventures IA2 535″ with wide port making 700 horsepower on pump It would be the ultimate combo and be driven anywhere! Best of all all true Pontiac and would for some tire shredding most definatly!

Love the Pontons! As you can see from the the car was blue when I got it and now is Red!
