This is the Porshe Panamera S which uses a production-ready of the powertrain featured in the 2012 Sport Turismo concept. It a chunky £88,000, but promises to the economy of a city car and the performance of a depending on your mood and the on-board modes. Is it a confused or the most roudned Panamera yet?

Every Porschephile knows red brake calipers mean steel discs, and yellow, a car the optional ceramics. But now there’s hue for the geeks to spot: a lurid green, denoting the wearer as a Hybrid.

The old Hybrid’s terrible feel and an electric mode of no more than 53mph, a range of 1.2 miles, meant have the cheaper diesel time. The new E-Hybrid though, is a credible car indeed. A productionised of the drivetrain in 2012’s cool Turismo shooting brake the £88,967 E-Hybrid retains the old 328bhp 3.0 supercharged Audi V6, but the 1.7kWh nickel metal batteries for lithium ion cells five times the capacity, and the new electric motor produces twice as much poke as

The combined total of 410bhp light work of pushing of limo through the air: takes 5.5sec, 0.5sec than the old car could manage, and the top is a suitably Porsche-like 168mph. Try the trick without calling the engine up πand you’re an 85mph top speed, which is than enough to cut it with traffic, and a range of 22 miles. But the 0-30mph time means you watch out for well-driven Tata

You lose a little agility with the 285kg lighter Panamera, but the E-Hybrid still impressively entertaining by luxury standards, with crisp, steering and strong body More feel from the and brakes wouldn’t go amiss, but from VED, the London charge and tiny company car tax resulting from an incredible CO2 rating would certainly your mind off the problems.

As the prospect of 91.1mpg, although worth pointing out that figure is achieved when the are fully charged. That 2.5 hours using a quick or less using the E-charge which diverts unneeded power to charge the battery cruising. On short trips time spent tethered to the economy will no doubt on long journeys it’s to be so clever.

Other changes to the Panamera include a long-wheelbase model by the Chinese market, but not coming to the UK, power tweaks for the base V6 and 20bhp for the GTS, and a brand new V6 engine for the Panamera S. Though two and 1800cc down on the 396bhp V8 it this one produces 414bhp and is 20% economical. The 384lb ft of torque it is only 15lb ft greater the old V8 could eke out, but on hand lower down the rev range. The line is this new S feels quicker where it counts, but lacks the character of its predecessor.

None of which changes our on the two best Panameras for British the sensible diesel and sensual
