Renault Twizy full price list revealed

Renault has revealed pricing and specification details for the third and final trim level for the soon-to-be-released, Renault Twizy.

Having already revealed the details of the Urban and Technic trims, it was a matter of time before the French manufacturer unwrapped the third ‘Colour’ trim before its release next March.

All models come with two gloveboxes, a three metre long charging cable and an ‘econometer’; which displays the battery’s energy consumption and range of the model.

The Twizy Colour comes with a two-tone paintjob with a white bodycolour that’s contrasted with either Urban Blue, Ivy Green or Flame Orange across the roof and sides of the car. In addition, the Flame Orange version can also be requested with black bodywork, which, according to Renault, emphasises the Twizy’s ‘sense of fun’.

Diamond-effect alloy wheels are an optional extra at a price of £350 on the Colour version, as are colour-coordinated doors – which match the roof and sides of the car – at a cost of £455.

The Colour trim level will sit in the middle of the range with a start price of £6,950, £260 above the Urban option (priced from £6,690) and below the range-topping Technic model (priced at £7,400).

That will make the Twizy the cheapest electric vehicle (EV) available in the UK when it arrives next year, however there will also be an additional £40 monthly battery hire charge for the duration of the Twizy’s three-year payment plan.

It’s this £40 lease charge which makes the Twizy markedly cheaper than the majority of other EVs on the market, including the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, where battery costs are factored into the final list price.

Renault owns the battery pack throughout the term of ownership, so, if any problems arise over the three year payment period, it is Renault who will repair or cover the costs of a replacement unit.

Despite being marketed as a car, the Twizy is technically a quadricycle because of its low 450kg weight which means it isn’t eligible for the government’s £5,000 plug-in car grant, unlike the Leaf and the i-MiEV.

It’s also less powerful than the two established EVs, with its 13kW battery (which accounts for almost a quarter of the Twizy’s overall weight) delivering 17bhp, a top speed of 50mph and a range of 60 miles. It can however charge itself fully, via a domestic electric supply, in around three and a half hours.

The Renault Twizy is available to order now with customer deliveries arriving in the UK in March.
