Sweden s worst kept Saab to be sold to electric car NEVS

I wasn t going to about this until came out officially, but as it s officially now s worst kept secret, I we can talk about the impending of Saab and it s future as a manufacturer of and electric vehicles.

John reacts to the electrifying news

newspaper SvD has come out with a that aligns pretty with whispers I ve been via more than one Djup in the last week or so Saab be sold to a company called Electric Vehicle Sweden

SvD say that a deal was ready to be as early as last weekend, but minute concerns and foot-dragging by the National Debt Office has the signing and the announcement.

One would hope that all involved on the Saab/Government side have learned that really is critical to missions this. People can and will away if their investment frames aren t fulfilled Koenigsegg Group).

NEVS are a newcomer to the Saab sale with first reports the company name) emerging a few months ago. The fledgling was only registered in Sweden month and has some big Swedish at the top to go with, presumably, some big and Chinese money in the bank

Saabs United report NEVS plan to build was essentially the Saab 9-3 ePower, with a small electric for the Japanese market. They plan to finish the 9-3 replacement on the Phoenix platform, which I forms the initial hybrid of their production planning and involve cooperation with for the hybrid/electric rear axle.

I m sure their plans include more than however. They will a car that they can bring to in the very short term and plans all involve what I expect to be at least a 2-year time.

The 9-3 ePower was a great but that s all it was. Saab had to introduce a test fleet of 70 vehicles in 2011. I saw some of being assembled at Saab s test assembly line, but test fleet never and even if it did, it was for testing, not for

Here s one that I took a in at Saab s Technical Development last year.

Some consideration to Saab s future as a and electric vehicle manufacturer ..

I ve had a say on already. Twice, in fact.

In my first piece, I opined hybrid/electric shouldn t be the centrepiece of a car s strategy. that car manufacturers who are with hybrid/electric are only so because they ve got a solid of traditionally powered vehicles to the innovation:

The problem is that don’t, won’t and in many can’t buy these vehicles on good feelings alone. The majority of people will from a pool of vehicles is based on price first. like styling, safety, utility and reliability will govern ..

.Simply put – Whilst we all the nice, shiny image hybrids/electrics project, the fact is the market doesn’t have available that are both enough AND cheap enough to people to switch from traditionally powered vehicles. building solely electric are struggling and their customers are few and far .

Proton Electric Cars

.I don’t know exactly this new consortium has in mind, but the cost of electric vehicles that their future will depend on development and in lower cost countries. I’m confident that the Swedes the know-how to build great cars, but I’m not confident that the could be kept to a level would make those a success in the marketplace.

I m willing to by all of that. The market proves it, Hybrid sales are growing but even Toyota has had to cheapen its model down to the Prius C to leverage the kind of sales people thought they reach years ago.

of the automobile is pretty much as far as I can tell, but electrification of the broader is a long way off and I do fear for a new Saab all their eggs in the electric

Having said that, I can t to hear from this new with regard to what it to do with Saab.

What of car company do they want to

Will it have links to s past beyond just the

Will they even the badge? (something that s not up to them, but up to defence company AB, who are interested in seeing Saab s continue to be associated with operations in Sweden)

Any new owner is to have to contend with difficulties in terms of staff, network, administration, marketing, – and all of that’s before they a single car. Even if a small core of Saab remaining within the wider right now (and there this will essentially be a new and they’re going to have a mountain to climb.

Doing all of that PLUS the of a car for production is going to take committed minds and very pockets. I m very interested to see how plan to do this and will be like heck that can.

Saab and the city of have been a very part of my life and whilst challenge seems almost I m willing to bet that the right can pull it off.
