Dodge Ram Power Seat Motors

Q. please help me! I have a with the DRIVERS SIDE SEAT on my 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup. One of the electric motors the seat for adjusting the seat has stopped functioning, and a local has told me over the phone the only remedy is to replace the unit (seat, I guess), at a of a little over $800.00.

The motor in question is operated by the switch on the side of the drivers (as you would look at it from the driver door, looking front to back or left to There are three switches The last switch raises and the back of the drivers seat to it either forwards or backwards.

The seat is stuck in the tilted position, with the back of the up as high as it will go. When I the switch in question while under the seat, I can visually see the twitch , like it is trying to the worm gear attached to it, but it stops. No noise or anything the initial twitch .

It will with the twitch when I the switch up or down.

I have at the tracks/worm gears/etc to see if there was blocking the movement of the seat, but I do not see Since the electric motor up when I press the control up, and twitches down when I the switch down.

I think the problem is with the motor, not the switch. I also that the motor cover warm, almost hot to the touch with the other two electric under the seat.

The sticker on the motor reads as follows:

GEN II B

8-81902

5709440

N3 6345

I about trying to remove the so I can see better, but it looks to me like the is not only bolted to the floor, but RIVETED to the center console I think that I would to take out the entire front drivers side, center passenger side) just to at it.

I thought about trying to off the electric motor in question so I trouble shoot it or take it to a shop, but I do not see how to disconnect it.

Even if I just lower the back of my seat manually, so that I don t feel like I am going to off the front, I would be happy. I do not have the finances to pay almost for a seat!

Please help

Sincerely,

A. The $800.00 is not for the seat, just for the motor and adjuster Believe me, you DON’T want to how much the seat costs.

The seat adjuster and motors be repaired, and are serviced only as a unit. If any component in this is faulty or damaged, the entire seat adjuster and motors must be replaced.

Now what I would do is go visit the junk yard and get a damaged assembly from a wreck and use the out of it. Save the other two in case you them down the road. sure you can get the whole thing for $100.00 or so.

A lot cheaper than a new

Getting the seat out looks a lot than it is. I can do it in about an hour or so. how to do it.
