Seat Altea XL Electric Ecomotive review:

The 2012 Seat Altea XL Electric Ecomotive is the first electric car designed, manufactured and developed in Spain, boasting to be a totally electrically-driven zero-emissions car. SEAT’s plans focus on producing units of the two models, Altea XL Electric Ecomotive and Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive, to governmental institutions in Catalonia and Madrid for use in their vehicle fleets, over the next few months. This way, SEAT will obtain important information in the view of mass production of electric vehicles in the medium-term. It is quite obvious that SEAT aims to develop a complete range of alternative technologies by unveiling two different but complementary models at the same time.

According to SEAT’s President James Muir, a more sustainable form of mobility is demanded by customers who have diverse needs. Thus, the SEAT representatives strongly believe that SEAT wll have the best position to meet the customers’ needs due to the parallel strategy of developing two different technologies. The future of electromobility in Spain is also determined by batteries, not only by their components.

The result is a public-private-partnership, called the CENIT VERDE project, which takes a holistic research approach in order to make the electric vehicle a reality in Spain. With a range of 135 kilometres, the Altea XL Electrc Ecomotive promises a lot of driving pleasure thanks to its engine that produces 115 HP, 270 Nm of torque and a limited top speed of 135 kph. It is equally appropriate for family or transport company use, due to its roomy passenger compartment.

The passenger compartment cannot be intruded as the batteries are located under the rear seats and the boot. Dr. Matthias Rabe, executive Vice-president for RD, stated that SEAT had its electric future assured and the Electric Altea XL showed how … their technology was, adding that the vehicle was an intentionally studied choice for the first fleet, enabling them to experiment with a wide variety of uses. The Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive concept combines the range of a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle with the advantages of emission-free driving, featuring a range of 52 kilometres and a maximum speed of 120 kph in electric mode. The combined mode provides a consumption forecast of only 1.7 litres of fuel or 18.5 kWh per 100 kms, the equivalent of a rock-bottom 39 g/km of CO2, as well as a top speed of 170 kph.

SEAT is a member of the Volkswagen Group and it is the only company in its sector with the full-range capacity to design, develop, manufacture and market cars in Spain.
