Mahindra Verito Electric Spotted

Mahindra’s SUV range has been doing remarkably well. With cars such as the Scorpio, XUV5OO and the Xylo Mahindra has been dominating the SUV segment for quite a few years now. However their ventures into the budget sedan and hatchback segment have not been just as successful.

Although their tie up with the Renault did produce the Logan which later came to be known as the Verito did offer a value for money product, it was only popular as a commercial vehicle. Mahindra also released a hatchback model of their Verito known as the Verito Vibe in the hopes of making a mark in the hatchback segment but the company’s efforts proved to be futile.

Mahindra’s lesser known car is the e2o. A fully electric vehicle, the e2o is surprisingly one of the most technologically advanced cars available right now and is a far cry from its predecessor, the REVA. It features smartphone-controlled features, GPS navigation system and a dashboard-mounted touchscreen, keyless entry, start/stop button and even regenerative braking. Available at 6.09 lakhs (Ex-Showroom Price Delhi), the e2o was definitely a step in the right direction for electric vehicles.

Sadly due to delays in the Government issuing incentives for electric vehicles, the e2o failed to gain the substantial market share it deserved. Manufactured in Bangalore, Mahindra even has plans of exporting it for the European market. The e2o is an example of how good an indigenous electric car can be.

And now an electric version of the Verito was spotted testing in Bangalore, Karnataka. Most electric cars have a major issue with range and for this cars such as the REVA and e2o were designed to have as small a footprint as possible to maximise efficiency. This resulted in compromises to the interior space with both cars having only two doors.

Mahindra seem to have solved this issue with the Verito Electric. The Verito Electric did make an appearance earlier as the Verito EV concept back in 2012 at the Auto Expo after which Mahindra did announce plans of releasing an electric variant of their Verito sedan known as the e-Verito.

Although the test car did have its Mahindra logo covered, the “AUTOMATIC” and “ELECTRIC” badges were left exposed. No further design changes seem to have been made to the exterior of the car to distinguish it from its petrol sibling.
