Model Update

Smart and sassy, the Ssangyong Kyron offers a competitive SUV package that is refined to drive, roomy and very well priced. The latest Ssangyong Kyron has the class leading 2.0-litre turbo-diesel with 104 kW of power and a grunty 310 Nm of torque.

Seating is supportive and comfortable. The seats come in either the elegant deluxe cloth trim or leather upholstery material. It’s easy to get yourself comfortable behind the steering wheel, and the dash and instrument design is very nice.

All the goodies are there. Cruise control, manual or climate control air conditioning, electric windows, power mirrors with electric heating, a headlamp levelling device, a sunroof, sun visors with vanity mirrors, heated front seats, electric front seats, a folding second row seat and folding arm rest, a front passenger 12V outlet, a rear cargo 12V outlet, a premium AM/FM CD audio system that comes with steering wheel mounted audio controls, handy dual front reading lamps, lots of storage compartments and cup-holders provide the Kyron with plenty of features to make the trip pleasant.

Buy the SsangYong Kyron new, and you have yourself a 3 year/100,000 km warranty into the bargain. Many up-to-date passive and active safety features are onboard as standard items.

Very nicely designed, the SsangYong Kyron sits commandingly on its massive alloy wheels. The front end is solid and nicely proportioned, and the high waistline gives the side-on profile a muscular, sporty look befitting for a vehicle like this. This is a luxury SUV that has the capability to handle 5 adults very comfortably including their luggage.

In a world that delights in road-biased 4 4 vehicles, the unashamedly traditional Ssangyong Kyron is a fantastic contrast. The Kyron is, refreshingly, a big, tough, well-priced SUV that is designed to tackle the toughest off-road terrain.

The Kyron is supremely spacious and well finished inside. The switch-gear inside has a pleasant design, and the big chunky switches give another dose of manly strength to match the stylish, tough exterior lines. Rear seat accommodation is practical, the seat back reclines by up to 15 degrees and the decently sized boot includes a neat underfloor storage compartment. The interior of the SsangYong Kryon is designed for comfort, and possesses: cruise control, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for the audio system as well as the cruise control mounted on the wheel, electric folding side mirrors, automatic air conditioning with a climate control function, an electronic sunroof with an anti-trap blind, reclining rear seats, tilting front headrests, a battery saver feature and front fully adjustable electric heated seats with memory and lumbar support.

There is even a luggage cover and cargo net in the rear to hide and hold all your items in place.

Under the bonnet, power comes from a Mercedes-derived 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine, which, when worked hard, provides swift acceleration and is very capable of comfortable, long-haul motorway cruising. The larger 2.7 turbo-diesel has a little more grunt, and would be an excellent option if towing caravans and boats are part of the driver’s repertoire. Linked to the 2.0 litre motor is a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox that shifts smoothly between ratios. The same auto is attached to the 2.7 litre diesel, and it impressively puts the 340 Nm to work.

Either way, you are onto a winning combination.

Off road performance is very good, even though it may not be up to the same level as a Land Rover Defender. However, the low-range gears and clever diffs help the Kyron put in an impressive show on slippery, slimy surfaces.

The SsangYong Kyron also has an impressive list of safety features. An auto dimming rearview mirror, automatic windscreen wipers, speed sensing wipers, front fog lamps, a hill decent control system, projection headlamps with height adjustment, anti-lock brakes, a back-up warning system, privacy glass, and front driver and passenger airbags are but a few of the list’s items.

All versions are attractively priced. A SsangYong Kyron offers strong value-for-money when compared to its obvious rivals. The big SUV boasts impressive amounts of kit, particularly when fitted with the optional digital climate control and power operated leather seats.

Drive the SsangYong Kyron and you won’t be disappointed.
