About the Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is a pure electric vehicle, one that does not use any fuel. No tail pipe. No emissions. It is a stylish sedan that offers an extended driving range thanks to its advanced lithium-ion battery technology.

Introduced in 2012, the Tesla S is priced from $70,000, an electric vehicle that is also a luxury sedan.

Tesla Model S Overview

The Tesla Model S is the second model from this California-based electric vehicle company. In 2008 the Tesla Roadster rolled out, a two-seater that was built for three model years. That initial model was discontinued in 2011 to make way for the Tesla S.

The Tesla S is a five passenger rear-wheel drive sedan with optional seating for seven. Two battery choices are available: a standard 60-kilowatt battery or an optional 85-kWh battery, the latter offering up to 300 miles of driving range when a 55 mph speed is maintained. Choose the standard system and the Tesla delivers an average 232-mile range.

Tesla Model S Features

Its sleek body design compares favorably with the best European sedans, an aerodynamic layout with a nearly even 50/50 weight distribution for optimum handling. Its rigid body structure and suspension system ensure remarkable handling with the power steering system offering precise feedback. As the sedan accelerates, the suspension system automatically adjusts by lowering the vehicle for improved aerodynamics and increased range.

This sedan rides on 19-inch alloy wheels encased within all-season tires.

Slide behind the steering wheel of the Tesla Model S and you have a sedan that is roomy, well lit and sated with technological features. The centerpiece of the interior is its oversized 17-inch touchscreen display, like no other one in the industry. This touchscreen controls many vehicle functions including the panoramic sunroof, what can be opened with a swipe of the interactive display. The display also controls phone use, Internet connection, climate control, the suspension system, navigation, and music.

The screen also shares energy consumption information and displays a high definition picture from the backup camera.

Every Model S is equipped with front bucket seats, a second row bench seat and a pair of rearward facing jump seats for small children. The leather-appointed interior includes 12-way power driver and front passenger seating, lumbar support, a split-folding second row seat, power accessories including remote power door locks, cruise control, a customizable front console, two 12-volt outlets, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a tilt and telescopic steering column, dual zone climate control, and reading lights. This model also has a seven-speaker, 200-watt audio system that supports a variety of music formats.

Numerous safety features are standard including eight airbags, driver and front passenger seat sensors, a driver’s seat position sensor, a rollover crash sensor, and a crash sensor for high voltage disconnect. This model also provides interior release mechanisms for all doors, the trunk and the rear cargo area, an anti-theft alarm and vehicle immobilizer system, and sufficient rear seat room to hold three child seats simultaneously.
