No one buys a Prius to get anywhere quickly. At we haven’t met any folks as such, and running the car through our autofile we have the quantitative data to up why it would be stupid to do so.

(Why the Prius isn’t the environmentally smart automotive one can make? Well, that’s a a ‘nuther story.)

The Prius satisfy other automotive however, as witnessed by all the owners we from, and while hardly an adored vehicle, those who out money for their own copies a measure of respect and appreciation. One love[s] it for what it is, while admits, It’s pretty though.

But sprinkled throughout is to the car’s overriding reliability, its fuel economy and a fuss-free experience. Owners love the afforded the hatchback, the extra room thanks to a lack of a in the floor and the overall ergonomics.

That’s not to say owners didn’t nits to pick with the One owner lamented the sea of hard while another complained of too rattles erupting all over the I’m not crazy about the bell inside the cab, owner from Oregon out. It should be outside to people when I’m up.

Still, many believe in the car’s value, 93,741 through the first six of this year and that’s its federal tax incentives fully But besides fuel economy, car Autoweek readers want to exactly what kind of one can expect from any car, a Prius.

The short answer: Not too We found the car extremely slow, 10.6 seconds to reach 60 mph a standstill, and its skinny tires do much for stopping power, up 137.9 feet to stop that speed. And for as small a car as the is, it still only managed mph through our slalom (the Camry reached 41 mph) and a 0.68 g of lateral acceleration.

Better rubber would go a way toward improving the car’s but the Prius would still from mediocre chassis and a super anemic powertrain.

But all that when you can get 50 mpg for BMW money,
