Toyota Cars in India

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) is world’s biggest automaker in terms of production and is ranked eighth in ‘Fortune 500′ global rankings for year 2011. The company with its headquarters in Toyota City, Aichi, Japan has its presence all over the world and has nine manufacturing and research units in North America. Toyota History

Toyota company history can be traced back to early 1920’s when Kiichiro Toyoda established Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. In 1934, Automobile Department was incorporated as a part of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. and in 1935 prototype models of A1 Passenger car and G1 Truck were completed.

1060 units of new SUV, Fortuner were also sold in the same month.

The first plant will handle MPVs like Fortuner and Innova, while Corolla Altis, Etios and Liva will be manufactured at the second plant.

By 2014, company plans to start installing aluminium casting and machining lines in India. These lines will function under Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt Ltd (TKAP), which will also be involved in manufacturing auto parts for Etios and Etios Liva. TKAP is planned to start operations by third quarter of 2012.
