Volvo V40 and V60 are upcoming plug-in hybrid of UK

Volvo is expected to showcase its latest Volvo V40 premium hatchback and the V60 D6 AWD at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012, which will start from June 28 at the Goodwood House. The Volvo V40 is a five-door hatchback whereas the Volvo V60 D6 AWD is the first plug-in diesel hybrid of the world. The V60 will be going up the Goodwood hill, possibly setting a record for the greenest lap ever.

The V40 is the first car of the world to feature a pedestrian airbag. This innovation will help reduce the harshness of pedestrian injuries in the event of a collision. Also, it is the only model in its class to have City Safety, Bluetooth and the low speed collision avoidance system as standard. The 1.6 litre diesel engine has 115 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and start/stop functions. This means V40 drivers will get benefit from improved running costs and the lowest vehicle tax bands.

With just 94 g/km of CO2 emissions, the D2 version of the Volvo V40 offers a combined fuel consumption of 78.5 mpg. With a top speed of 118 mph it can accelerate to 60 mph in 11.7 seconds. The V40 possesses many other leading set of innovative high-tech features.

The on road price of this vehicle starts at just £19,745.

On the other side, the Volvo V60 D6 AWD is the most technically advanced model ever by Volvo Car Corporation. It is an electric car, hybrid car and muscle car, all rolled into one. The driver can choose any of the three cars as per his choice at any given moment by just a simple touch of a button. The front wheels of the car are powered by a 5-cylinder 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine producing 215 hp and maximum torque of 440 Nm. The rear axle is powered by an electric motor that produces 70 horsepower, while producing only 49g/km of CO2 on the combined cycle.

The drivers can select the required driving mode (pure, hybrid and power) via 3 buttons that give three entirely different temperaments to the car.

In Pure mode, the car is powered only by its electric motor. If the batteries are fully charged, it ranges up to 32 miles with no CO2 emissions. The electric range varies with driving style and terrain climate. Hybrid mode is the standard or default setting whenever the car starts. The electric motor and diesel engine cooperate to ensure optimal balance between environmental footprint and driving pleasure.

In this mode total range is up to 621 miles and CO2 emissions are just 49 g/km. In Power mode, the maximum possible power is given to the car by optimizing the technology. The electric motor and diesel engine have a total power output of 70 + 215 horsepower and maximum torque of 200 + 440Nm.

The lightning quick torque delivery of the electric motor contributes to the car s acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds.
